Please do not request to add a birth date calculated from the gravestone, unless the complete age is known or listed (y/m/d). Dates that do not agree with stone and are not primary sourced will be placed in the bio section or declined.
Transfer requests must be submitted via a SAC and must provide the exact relationship and be within guidelines.
Determine if you really need the memorial transferred to you for management. Transferring of management should only be requested if you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree outside guidelines is not grounds for a management transfer request. Transfer requests that do not include relationship to deceased or are out of guidelines are deleted.
Upon request, personal use of photos will be given with proper credit or a findagrave link.

|Jeanne Kiefer||Krum Stones|
Hi Fred: I wonder if you can tell me where you found the five Krum gravestones (Martin, Jacob, Barbary, etc.) in Chatham Center, NY. I'm working on the Krum family history (mostly in the Krum cemetery in Hillsdale) and would like to go to the spot and view these outliers, if possible. You created the entry in 2014. I am wondering if this might be a small family plot on private land? Thanks for your help.

|Don Blauvelt||John Lothrop-John Lathrop|
Yes, there is a duplicate memorial for Capt. John Lothrop, and it is intentional due to the maintainer of the earlier memorial refusing to correct the surname from Lathrop to Lothrop, using the crutch that the surname is spelled Lathrop on the gravestone.
The immigrant Rev. John Lothrop of Barnstable, Mass. is the Lothrop family patriarch. The memorial library at Barnstable is named Lothrop, the main cemetery in Barnstable is named Lothrop Hill, and the 1884 genealogy of the family is called the "Lo-Lathrop" family, not the "La-Lothrop" family.
Rev. John Lothrop was twice married and had six sons. His 2nd son Samuel, by the Rev.'s 1st wife, relocated in 1648 to New London, Connecticut and eventually to Norwich, Conn. Late in life Samuel's great great grandson, Dr. David Lothrop (Thomas, Samuel, Samuel Rev. John), became convinced the original spelling of the family name was Lathrop, and convinced everyone else in the Samuel Lothrop branch to adopt the spelling Lathrop. Prior to this conversion, Dr. David's, as well as all of the then living and previous generations of the Norwich family, are recorded by the surname of Lothrop in vital records, church records, deeds, probate records, etc. However, by 1800 the Samuel Lothrop line began adopting the surname of Lathrop. Because Samuel got a head start in family creation and there was a preponderance of sons in the resulting generations, those surnamed Lathrop now represent the largest number of the descendants of Rev. John Lothrop.
On the other hand, the branches of the five other Lothrop sons whose descendants remained for several generations in greater Barnstable, Mass. never changed the family surname to Lathrop. When several of the male Barnstable lines began migrated to Connecticut in the 1700s, their vital records, deeds, church records, probate records, etc. are by the surname of Lothrop. And, those lines resided in Connecticut other than in the immediate vicinity of Norwich.
Regardless of what Connecticut town it pertained to, Louis Barbour in his Connecticut Vital records alphabetized the surname of Lothrop in his headings as "Lathrop, Lothrop." People referring solely to those vital records have renamed the separate "Lothrop" surnamed branches of the family as "Lathrop." This directly impacts the context of which branch the numerous lines of the family came from, as well as the surname of the daughters at marriage.
Expediency has no place in serious genealogy study or in Find-a-grave memorials.

I've contacted several of the cemeteries that they have stones in, but NONE of them have any record of them being buried there. I asked Why would they have stones there if they aren't buried there? No one knows! I also asked "Would there be any paperwork if they just had stones placed there as cenotaphs" and every place has answered YES, they should have paperwork, even for just a stone. So I'm totally baffled. One place was going to check and see if there was a stone there. He said it was POURING down rain at the time and he would call me back today. I'll let you know what I find out!
