Re:Bernard Phillip Hopkins Memorial #52513068
Isabella,
I came across this memorial more out of curiosity. It certainly doesn't present a very pretty picture of the person. Anyway after my visit, I got to thinking just how Irish the comments were.... sarcastic to the end so I did a bit of research on the man and wondered if you'd like to add any of the information to his bio.

Bernard was the son of Peter Paul Hopkins born in Ireland and immigrated to USA in 1884. His mother was Catherine Noger born in Kansas but her father was born in Switzerland. Her mother born in Pennsylvania.

Bernard had siblings: Catherine, Margaret, Thomas and Anastacia. This is from the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census. The family does not seem to be listed (so far as I have found at this time) on the 1940 census.

Bernard was an electrician in 1930 and worked for R&R Signals. he was single and renting a room for $5 per month from a man called Robert Farris who was an odd job labourer. No indication of any relationship as Farris had a few roomers at this time as well as his family living in the home at 90 Morris Street.

From 1910 - 1930 USA census his siblings:

John M b)1899 - not on census beyond 1910
Rosemary b)1901 - not on census beyond 1910
Catherine b)1902 - not on census beyond 1910
Margaret b)1907 - not on census beyond 1920
Patrick b)1908 - not on census beyond 1910
Thomas b)1908
Anastasia b)1910 - not on census beyond 1910

Usually not being on the census would indicate death. However, I found two marriages for Anastasia:

Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002Бе

Name:
Anastasia Nettie Hopkins (widow)

Age:
39

Race/Ethnicity:
White

Birth Date:
13 Feb 1909

Marriage Date:
25 Nov 1948

Marriage Location:
Ferguson, St Louis, Missouri

Marriage County:
St Louis

Spouse Name:
Leonard H Gantner

Spouse Age:
47

Spouse Birth Date:
11 Mar 1901

Spouse Race/Ethnicity:
White

1st Marriage:
Indiana, Marriage Collection, 1800-1941Бе
Marriage & Divorce
Name: Anastasia Hopkins
Spouse: James F O'Neal
Marriage: 8 Sep 1914 - Daviess County

At birth Bernard is listed as living: 6300 Verona Rd, Mission Hills, KS, 66208-1831

at time of death in 1993 Bernard lived at: 77836 Caldwell, Burleson, Texas, USA (SS# 457-07-5922).

He served in WW11 from 1940-45 and I have added a photo of his draft card to the memorial.

I don't see anything on line to indicate his lousy headstone.

Bernard & Lucille had a daughter and a son:

Texas, Birth Certificates, 1903-1932 about Lucille Lorraine Hopkins Name: Lucille Lorraine Hopkins Birth Date: 19 Sep 1927 Gender: Female Birth Place: Pettus, Bee, Texas, USA Father: Bernard Phillip Hopkins Father Birth Place: Pleasant Hill, Missouri Mother: Lucille Lillian Newman Mother Birth Place: Alice, Texas - See more at: http://www.joeydevilla.com/2012/04/30/legacy/#sthash.1jZZ9Y1q.dpuf

Texas, Birth Certificates, 1903-1932 about Jack Malcolm Hopkins Name: Jack Malcolm Hopkins Birth Date: 5 Sep 1929 Gender: Male Birth Place: Brownsville, Cameron, Texas, USA Father: Bernard Phillip Hopkins Father Birth Place: Missouri Mother: Lucille Newman Mother Birth Place: Texas Mother Residence: Texas - See more at: http://www.joeydevilla.com/2012/04/30/legacy/#sthash.1jZZ9Y1q.dpuf

Bernard worked at O.W. Dyer - 162nd floor, 2nd National Bank in Houston when he signed up to serve in WW11.

Not sure why such an awful grave marker. Some information on line says he was only married to Lucille the last 7 years of his life and it was revealed a few weeks prior to his death that he was unfaithful.

It seems very sad though that he gave of himself serving in WW11 and has no respect for that.

Anyway, some information for you to play with if you wanted to update his bio.
