I was born and raised in Atlanta, but have lived most of my adulthood in Charlotte, North Carolina. Coincidentally I ended up right where my roots are on my father's side of the family. Genealogy is my passion and I never met a cemetery I didn't like. I'm also into historic preservation, both of buildings and the lives of people no longer with us.|
As the daughter of a general and great-granddaughter of 3 Confederate veterans, I like to note military records of veterans on their findagrave memorials.
I welcome corrections/additions, but will no longer link to a "burial unknown" person. I have found this leads to duplicates.
FAMILIES ON MY FATHER'S SIDE: Irwin, DeWeese, Blackwelder, Babcock, Taylor, Wilbon.
FAMILIES ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE: Bryan, Battle, Pope, Atkinson, Yarbrough, Chappell.

|Etta ||memorial #88198377|
This in regard to J Archie Cline first name.
He is my uncle, his wife and daughter are both living. I asked Pat, my cousin, about Jeremiah. She said;
"Dad had no name associated with the initial J. Evidently, that was not uncommon when he and his brother were born in 1916 and 1913". Pat
Your source was mistaken about his name

|adan||Landon Walker daughter obit|
Susan: This obit in the local paper caught my eye. When I saw she was the daughter of a Walker from North Carolina, I had to check findagrave & lo & behold, her father is 1 of your posts. I assume you want to know. ALLEN WALKER

Hello Susan, thank you for the headstone photos added for Corporal Hugh Bailey Lothery, nice work!
I am sending you a handmade award -
THE MOUNT ZION Mixup Award is awarded to Susan Grillis for her dedication on photographing, correcting, and researching those burials at Mount Zion Community / Methodist Cemeteries.
I know how hard you had to work on these and I was so happy every time I saw an edit or a photo. So glad for all you did so I made you an award! :-)

|Daylon Thompson||Farrell Carpenter and Mary Rhodes Carpenter, Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, NC|
I was personally acquainted with Farrell and his wife Mary in the early 50's -- about 1954. They lived on Monroe Road (or the Old Charlotte Highway) between Matthews and Indian Trail, NC. I believe that they were church friends of ours; our families attended the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church near Matthews, NC. They had two daughters. The older daughter was Mary Alice, and the younger was Brenda. When I was about five years old, my mother worked in a spinning mill in Matthews, and she would drop me off at the Carpenter home, where Mary would watch me all day, and I played with Brenda, who was about my age. In about 1962, the Carpenters had moved to the east side of Charlotte, and they lived in a house which would now be just off Brookshire Freeway between the old (round) Charlotte Coliseum and the old Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop. In about 1962, my brother Horace Brown Thompson, Jr. accompanied Mary Alice Carpenter to her school prom. I think that I may still have a couple of photos of them all dressed for the evening. I would love to know whether Brenda or Mary Alice still live in the Charlotte area -- or I would love to be able to contact them! I have "befriended" you, Susan, on FindAGrave. You could perhaps post a note for me on my mother's Find A Grave...Ruth Garmon Thompson Williams.
