Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Northern Indiana and am very interested in the Civil War. One of my hobbies is to visit the graves of Indiana Civil War Soldiers. To date my dad and I have visited over 1,865 cemeteries and have found the gravesites of over 36,400 Indiana Soldiers, as well as some 8,900 soldiers from states other than Indiana. We have also located the gravesites of over 1,700 Confederate soldiers buried in the Hoosier state. I am also trying to find the gravesites of all of Indiana's Civil War Colonels. I am also interested in the 8th Indiana Infantry, Company I, and the 12th Indiana Infantry. I am also looking for every Chaplain that served in an Indiana Regiment in the Civil War. If you know of any gravesites you think I may have missed, or have some interesting information, don't hesitate to contact me. I am also working on a book about Indiana's soldiers that died during the Civil War. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you are looking for a Hoosier that served in the civil war send me an e-mail and I'll see if I can help in any way. Currently, I'm also trying to locate every Civil War veteran in Kosciusko County, Indiana, and upload them to Find-A-Grave. I am also a Christian, and look forward to life after the grave. Thanks.

Alfred D Owen
Hi Eric, I've started a project about the 15th Indiana Infantry, George D Wagner's regiment. My research indicates that Alfred D Owen was a Sergeant in Co "I", and he was (as were all of the men) said to be residents of Union County, However, as I looked for these men in the 1860 census I find no one by this name there. I find instead only the Alfred D. Owen from New Harmony, Indiana. (There is an Alfred Owen - no middle initial in Lafayette but he is an inmate at an asylum and is said to be an idiot which rules him out as a soldier). Alfred of Co "I" was discharged on August 28, 1861, and I suspect he might then be the Alfred who enlisted in the 80th. So my point in contacting you is to ask (if my supposition is correct) that you add his service in the 15th Ind to the biography you have for him on Find a Grave. BTW - Alfred's uncle, Richard Owen, was Lt Col. of the 15th so it makes sense to me that Alfred was "groomed" by Richard to enter the 80th as an officer.

I see you keep track of the 12th IN Inf. Are you interested in all Indiana Civil War vets? If so I can list other vets as I go through Rose Hill Cemetery.

RE: Ohio County Cemeteries
hello again Mr. Lowman, good to hear from you again. to answer your questions, I believe it is so low because it was a small county. weren't a lot of companies raised in Ohio Co. The only larger cemeteries, New, Cedar Hedge, Union are in Rising Sun. There are small family cemeteries scattered across the county and I haven't been to a lot of them, so there could be fellows buried there that I haven't found yet. There are a few other church cemeteries I haven't walked yet so there is definitely a chance there are other burials I haven't found. Cedar Hedge and Union are as far as I know are just separated by a road thru the middle, I haven't found any one who knows the exact line. There was a vet named Riggs I entered in one of those who had an ancestor from out west sent me a nasty e mail that I had him in the wrong cemetery, and went on to tell me how sorry I was, in length, for doing such a thing. I still think I had the right cemetery but I deleted Mr. Riggs because of his idiot ancestor. Drop me a line when you are around, maybe I can accompany you for a bit.

No problem. I live about 4 miles from that cemetery. I'll see what I can do about the other Whitley County veterans you need.

RE: Wife of John (Jno) Fletcher Willey
No need to transfer unless you prefer not to manage it any more. I have all my information in Ancestry and I like what you have done. I was trying to add more of his children, but was just experimenting and not sure if the updates will come through some how.

I don't think there was a second wife. Only other marriage with this name is to a man with the same name in Texas.

My brother was the one asking me questions about your entry. So I signed up this morning to see what I could do. As a rule, I don't use find a grave.

Wife of John (Jno) Fletcher Willey
John (Jno) Fletcher Willey is my third great grandfather. My father had his civil war sword and it has since passed to my brother.

In my research, I find that Pauline Garner (Willey) is the only wife in the first 64ish years of his life and mother of all the children. Here are the records to substantiate this.

Indiana and Federal marriage records date
their marriage at April 9, 1830
The 1850 and 1860 cencus show that Pauline was
still living with John Willey.
Military records show her as his wife.
This date range establishes her as the mother
of all the children.
The Garner family graves are in the same
cemetery. Her's is there as well
stating she was the wife to John F
