Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a descendant of the Union Workhouse of Sheffield England and British Home Children ancestors... and I am dang proud of it!!

My great uncle, Harry Parker (b. 1895), was sent in 1910, at age 14, and he went on to enlist in both our great wars. His brother, my grandpa, William Henry Parker (born 1890 but he always believed it was 1892), was sent to the training ship called, The Southampton, in Hull at age 11. He stayed until he was 16, then went on to enlist with the B.E.F in WWI. After the great war, he immigrated with his new bride and first born son (who he named after his brother) to Canada in 1920 to join Harry.

Their sister, Eliza Parker (b. 1886), was sent to the Girls Friendly Society in Lincoln to train as a servant at age 14. Last information found for her is in the 1911 census where she is indeed a servant in the well known Kexby House in Gainsborough. What became of her from here is currently unknown.

All three were born in the Workhouse to a single pauper woman, my great grandmother, Mary Ann Parker (b. about 1868). What became of her is unknown as well.

My great uncle Harry never married nor had children and he is commemorated on the Ontario British Home Child Memory Quilt that I proudly submitted him for. Grandpa went on to have 5 boys and 1 girl. Four of his boys served (WWII and Korea) and the youngest son became our local Fire Chief.

I find my heritage fascinating and I am always looking to learn more of where I came from.
