How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?
First, Determine if you really need the memorial transferred to you for management. Transferring of management should only be requested If you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed information and photos for my memorials.

Colonel Wood (149907286) has his wife, Mary E Wood, buried with him. I have a picture of her side, if you happen to have a memorial for her. I didn't see one when I did a search.

Regarding Find A Grave Memorial# 41318363 Sarah C Barton, I did use an online calculator for her date of birth.

Hello again, SLGMSD!
Thanks for your gracious response, and especially the link to the photos! While I’m aware of the Bentz spelling in the brochure, I’ve seen many a name/date typo in guides to well-known cemeteries, so visual proof of the spelling on the zinc monument was important. There’s been some confusion as to how a name should be entered, and a Find-a-Grave Admin recently clarified that it should be spelled as it appears on the gravestone, with any “a.k.a”s listed in the Bio section.
I’ve now updated Louis’s page as you’ve suggested, and also added “The Bugler” in the nickname section. That soubriquet not only appears on the monument, but may be helpful to those searching for “Louis Benz”, which seems to be the true spelling, and the name by which he’s better known.
Thanks again for your help---I do appreciate it.

She is the wife of BG Donald Blaine Smith, who is still alive and well. I hope that helps!

Thanks for your interest. To make the change you suggest, I need to see a photo showing that Louis’s surname is actually spelled “Bentz” on his grave monument. (If you’ve taken such a photo, please add it to his memorial page, or if not, and you can find a verifying photo on the web, please send me the link.)
As it is, I don’t recall the inscription on Louis‘s monument---which was made of cast zinc rather than stone---and it isn’t visible in the pic on his memorial page. However, he is listed on the burial roster of the US Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration as “LOUIS BENZ, PVT/BUGLER DET ART, USMA/US CADET CORPS, DATE OF DEATH 7/09/1878, BURIED AT: SECTION A, SITE 403, US MILITARY ACADEMY”. Other authoritative sources on the spelling of his surname include his file at the US Library of Congress, which is entitled “Louis Benz”; the Taps Project exhibition at Arlington National Cemetery, which paid tribute to“Louis Benz” as a distinguished military bugler, and publications by musical scholars and bugle experts such as Jari Villanueva and Robb Stewart, who’ve done extensive research on “Louis Benz”, his bugling style, and his instrument.
