Bio Photo So Many Ancestors....So Little Time..
I was born in N.C. a long time ago and have lived in VA. for quite some time.
I enjoy researching civil war soldiers and their families and live in the Heart of the Confederacy.
I enjoy painting with acrylics, especially Old Homeplaces..Beach Scenes..Old Depots, any OLD buildings and such!
I have been Following the Periwinkle in Henry County, VA. and surrounding areas for over 25 years and have enjoyed every minute. :O)
There are many soldiers in my virtual Confederate Cemetery here on Findagrave.
If I can help you with anything, please feel free to ask me.
If you want me to transfer a memorial Please Include Your Findagrave # and go to Edit and ask me there.
I want to thank all the people that have helped me with my research over the years.
Two are Laura Rust and Eugene Landreth who helped my Mom and I when we first started our quest in the 1980s.
The "stories" are what make our ancestors on findagrave come alive once more.

To Forget Ones Ancestors Is To Be A Brook Without A Source, A Tree Without A Root.....

Dear Ancestor,
YOUR TOMBSTONE STANDS AMONG THE REST
NEGLECTED AND ALONE
THE NAME AND DATE HAVE WORN OFF
THE WEATHERED MARBLE STONE
IT REACHES OUT TO ALL WHO CARE.
IT'S NOW TOO LATE TO MOURN
YOU DID NOT KNOW THAT I'D EXIST
YOU DIED....AND I WAS BORN
YET EACH OF US ARE CELLS OF YOU
IN FLESH, IN BLOOD, IN BONE.
OUR HEARTS CONTRACT AND BEAT A PULSE
ENTIRELY NOT OUR OWN
DEAR ANCESTOR, THE PLACE YOU FILLED
SOME HUNDRED YEARS AGO
SPREADS OUT AMONG THE ONES YOU LEFT
WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU SO
I WONDER HOW YOU LIVED AND LOVED.
I WONDER IF YOU KNEW
THAT SOMEDAY I WOULD FIND THIS PLACE
AND COME TO VISIT YOU.....

Find A Grave gives us an "Unknown" choice for burials or cremations, etc. and if it's a known fact that these people are dead, and they will most likely never be officially linked to any particular burial place, they also have a right to be remembered and to be linked to their other family members.
I will gladly link those who have an unknown status.
That can easily be changed if they are proved to be in any particular place.
They were somebody too, and deserve to be remembered.
If you send me a request and I do not address it within a few days, please re-send!
If you re-send and still get no response, go ahead and list my memorial on here, because I'm probably dead. :)

Oxley Cemetery
I received a request for a photo of the headstone for Benjamin : W.Oxley. The Oxley Cemetery containing the grave of Benjamin W. Oxley (1830-1862) is supposed to be adjacent to the old Donley house. I located the derelict house in the woods about 100 yards due south behind 2580 Novelty Road, Penhook, Virginia. Co-ordinates 36.98144, -79.652575. I searched the woods surrounding the house but found NO evidence of a graveyard you listed as containing Oxley 35 graves. Benjamin Oxley served in Co. B 24th VA Inf. CSA. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Williamsburg, taken prisoner, and died May 31, 1862 at Fortress Monroe VA reportedly when his right leg was amputated. His burial place is unknown and the Oxley Penhook cemetery might have contained a cenotaph. His brother Nathaniel G. Oxley (1824-~1892) was also a Confederate soldier serving in Co. G 57rh VA Inf. CSA.
The other Oxley Cemetery in Franklin County (3 graves) is located south of Rocky Mount VA down US Route #220 southeast of Ferrum VA.

RE: Aquilla Peyton
I checked the cemetery again. Catherine Payne headstone has unmarked graves on both sides. If Aquilla Peyton is buried next to her, he is not marked.

Benjamin Sterling Ramsey
There is a death record on ancestry that provides: father: John A Ramsey and mother: Mattie Anglin
his birth: 25 Jul 1905 death: 12 May 1952

Then a marriage record: marr date: 10 Aug 1946, father: John Archer Ramsey and mother: Mattie Martha Anglin ... strange thing is that I can not find anything for a John Archer Ramsey ...

RE: Jenkins and Hester Oxley Cemetery
I hope that you are able to go by some day and see the site. Although not a cemetery per se, it has a sacred feeling to the place. I can give you more precise GPS coordinates if you are ever inclined to make a visit. Need to introduce you to Denise Booth. She and I are planning on a trip to the Bedford courthouse the second week in August to find Hester. I just went to the Franklin courthouse and have about 150 photographs of deeds to and from Jenkins and Hester. Am very willing to share. Would prefer to discuss over email, though, as this is a public forum. chris.lamoureux1@gmail.com

Please help me figure out how to delete the old funeral memorial card. The new one you added looks great! I'd love to get a copy of that one.
Once I delete the old funeral memorial card ...I can then add the death certificate.
Thank you, "Pat" Cosner, WV

Hi Dee,

I have a copy of Thelma's death certificate and tried to download it for you on here but there are too many photos attached to her so it won't let me download. If you still a copy let me know and we'll figure something out-email or whatever. Thanks and have a good day.

RE: Lelia Trent
I do not add obits to memorials, it is against Find a Grave's policy.
