Wow! Came across this while looking for my uncle who died as in infant while my Grandpa was serving at Fort Jackson!
Interesting Stuff......now I want to look further into the history here.
My grandparents lived in Columbia in the early 50's, transplanted from small town Iowa. It was the days of intense segregation. Things I can hardly imagine and my grandmother doesn't like to speak of it much now, even in her 80's.
Thanks! These are the links we need that make Find A Grave an important tool, linking our past to the present and the present to our future.
You are a gem! Much thanks!

Thank You so much for bringing this cemetery to the contributor's attention, and your listings.. so we can memorialize these souls. The state of South Carolina should be ashamed of themselves. I know I am ashamed of them!!!!!
Please transfer memorial #7223990 Charles Fay to #48131163. This is an indirect line I collaborate with living descendants to complete genealogy and trace migration trails. Thank you for honoring ancestors!

Thank you for creating Jesse Dirkhising's memorial. I would think to state that his death was "sensationalized by the media," however, is a somewhat misleading description. For the most part, it was ignored by the majority of the media; as both prior and subsequent to the issue of media bias being raised, it received relatively little coverage.
