I grew up behind Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, CA and would always spend time to stop and look at the memorials as I passed through to get to a movie theater on the other side. I would wonder who each of them were in life, what they had experienced, and who grieved for their passing. This led to me spending a whole lot of time in the libraries around me with microfiche and microfilm trying to find out. Even before I was old enough to understand what an icon she really was, I was always especially taken with the interment of Marilyn Monroe. Her death so young really resonated with me.|
I started gravestone restoration and recovery during my undergraduate college years out in Colorado, and through that fell into doing work as a personal historian, helping people track down hidden branches of their family trees. I am passionate about keeping people's stories alive, whether I know them or not. The idea of someone's life or monument fading away just crushes me.
I'm always happy to help if you hit a snag in your research, or need a photo or a location in Southern California. Just drop me a line, and I will let you know what I can do!

MT OLIVET CEMETERY ST JOSEPH MISSOURI
I searched for your loved one yesterday. This cemetery is enormous. There are about 21,000 burials here. If you look at the photos for this cemetery, there is a map and you will see names of different sections. Each section has upward of 400 plots in it. If you could get the name of the section it would help. I don't have a map of plots and when I go there the office is hardly ever open so I can't access the map inside the office. I will be going back now and then and if you call the office at 816-279-5005 and get a section name and post it on the memorial page, someone should have a better chance of finding the marker. Directions or a location within the section could help as well. The office personnel don't want a person like me asking for the locations of a whole bunch of people....they just don't have time for it all at once.
I hope this will help you find your loved one.

Thanks for your nice clear foto of my Aunt, who I knew all my childhood and into adulthood. I attended her funeral with another aunt, who has since joined her husband in the same cemetery. I created memorials for her parents and linked them, and also linked my other aunt to her parents. I know how you feel about graves no longer being recognizable. I transcribed a small almost forgotten cemetery in Pennsylvania, and 2 boys that my great grandfather said were buried there were not found, even in a printed list of the "residents" that the adjoining church made years later. The burials were mostly in the late 1700s, when my 3rd great grandfather and his father-in-law donated land for a church & cemetery. It was really cool to go there and see this cemetery my great grandfather wrote about a century earlier. Thanks for making a difference.
Thank you for taking a photo of Grace's headstone for me.
