Chapel Garden, Maus Bldg 1, 2 & 3, Sec 1, Sec 4 I.O.O.F. lot (circle), Sec 6, Sec 7, Sec 8, Sec 9, Sec 10A, Sec 11, Sec 12 large & small single graves, Sec 15, Sec 18, Sec 21, Sec 23, and Kenton Co Burial Ground are done in Highland Cemetery.

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

I thought I would give you some additional information regarding this memorial. Sarah Ann "Sally Ann" Davis was actually born on 26 AUG 1811, in West Union, Adams Co., OH and died 12 DEC 1864 in Adams Co., OH. Her first husband was Elias Nelson Vance born OCT 1810 and died 8 OCT 1846. They were married on 2 FEB 1832 in West Union and she chose to be buried beside her first husband. Her second husband was William Davis. They were married in 1853 in Adams Co., OH. William is buried beside his first wife, Rebecca Beam in the Winchester Cemetery in Adams Co., OH. Sarah Ann "Sally Ann" Vance/Davis was the daughter of John Kincaid and Sarah "Sally" Hannah Kincaid.
