Bio and Links
I grew up in the "Fairmount" and "Brewerytown" sections of Philadelphia now known as the "Art Museum" area and I now live in Philadelphia's Greater Northeast. I began tracing my family history in 2003 starting with just a handful of names and bits of information on maybe two generations. Now my extended family tree has thousands of names and grows every week.
I discovered that my great grandfather William H. Carpenter served in the Civil War(Pa.186th Infantry Co."D"),he was stationed at Fort Mifflin guarding the City of Philadelphia. His younger brother Pvt. James Knox Polk Carpenter was "accidentally shot by a comrade's gun" outside of Petersburg, VA just two weeks before the end of the war. I also found several great grand uncles and a cousin who were well-known Catholic priests in Philadelphia. I also found that I had a Great Aunt who was an Immaculate Heart of Mary Nun for over 50 years, and a cousin who was also an Immaculate Heart of Mary Nun. Two extended family members were also members of that same order of nuns. My maternal grandfather lost two siblings in the influenza epidemic of 1918 which hit Philadelphia particularly hard.
Most of the names I have added to Find A Grave belong to members of my extended family tree or names I have found during my research of my family. Many of the surnames are the same as my family surnames but I am not sure if they are connected yet.
If you would like to add information to any of the memorials I have placed, or if you have any research questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

Dominick Shields
My Great Grandfather was Dominick Shields. I noticed you set up a memorial page for him at St. Patrick's cemetery in Norristown, PA. You stated he was born in County Donegal Ireland. I was wondering how you discovered he came from Donegal? I had always thought he came from County Kerry but I have no documentation either way. I'm hoping you can solve this question.

Also, Dominick's death certificate completed by my Great Uncle Francis J. Shields (Dominick's son) states he was born in 1866 but per his marriage certificate at St. Patrick's he would actually have been born in 1856. His wife Ellen McEllarney was born in Nov 1866.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Elizabeth Scott Mahan
Hi there, can you let me manage the site for my third great grandmother, Elizabeth Scott Mahan. I have a copy of her death certificate that I like to add and link her to Isaac Scott and Mercy Martin Scott.

Thanks.

Elizabeth Ann Wall
Hi, I saw your message to LBGC.

Her parents were Christopher Wall (1838-1897, served in the Civil War) and Catherine Mahan (1850-1898). After her parents died Elizabeth and her siblings were raised by an Uncle on the Mahan side.

Good News! I found my photographs of John & Elizabeth's gravestones and I had them uploaded. Sad to say, these gravestones no longer exist today.
