Since being given my grandmother's trunk full of photos and memory books this past year, I have taken on the task of finding out who is who and delving into the world of genealogy. In the few years I have been doing this, I have found distant cousins on 4 sides of my paternal family. They have filled in many of my blank spots and have been great encouragements to me. Most of my family that have gone on are up at Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City. I am happy to help anyone get information or a grave site photo from Mt. View. I am also happy to help anyone get grave site photos in Silverton Oregon.|

|George Nelson Gregory||Great-great Uncle George, we are finally piecing your family together! Some day...|
I stumbled across your quote and got really excited, hoping you might have some answers that I can't find! You see, my name is George Nelson Gregory and for 60 years, I thought I was the IV. My dad, therefore, would have been George Nelson III, and his dad would then have been George Nelson Jr. My 87 year old mother recently told me that she and my dad (died 1974) weren't sure if he was really the III or if he was Jr., so they just guessed and that is how I officially became the George Nelson Gregory IV on my birth certificate.
So upon some investigation, on my grandfather's death certificate (George Nelson who died in 1933), Delilah Williams is listed as his mother. Delilah would have been the wife of George Sr., and to my surprise, he turns out to be George Napoleon Gregory (some trees have him listed as George Nelson and one tree has them both listed, but I am certain that this man's name is George Napoleon who was married to Delilah Williams, my great grandmother)! So that makes me George Nelson III and not IV. I am certain that there are three of us named George Nelson (myself, my dad and my grandfather who was Lola Brown's husband and Delilah Williams' son), so George Napoleon named his son George Nelson (although that is not what some other family trees state on ancestry.com). George Napoleon's first wife, Elizabeth McCall, had many children before she died at the early age of 45 from typhoid in 1860 (this is all documented-- there is no guess work on my timeline). Then he remarried Delilah Williams and they had three documented children-- Ella A Gregory, George Nelson Gregory (my grandfather), and Willie Moore Gregory. I know that the generations don't seem to match up in order for me to be George Napoleon's great grandson, but my father was born in 1908, almost the same age as my grandparents on my mother's side and I was born to his second wife, Ruth Ellen Troxell. So my dad was old enough to be my grandfather which would make me around the same age as George Napoleon's great, great grandson and not just his great grandson.
Honestly, it really didn't matter that much to me if I was G. Nelson III or IV; the reason I am writing to you is because I am wondering if you might have documented proof as to whom George Napoleon's father and mother were. Some trees say Levi and Abby Gregory. This may be true, but I just can't find anything to verify that. When I questioned one of them, I was told that they weren't really sure if Levi was the father. They also suggested that Levi may have gotten into some legal trouble (not specified) and that is why he moved his family to the midwest. Do you happen to have any evidence that could clear up this mystery for me? This is the main question for me. Who is George Napoleon's father and mother? I am certain of everything I have told you back to that point. Thank you for your interest in this, and thank you for wanting to help your Great, Great Uncle George's family find all the branches in the tree!
Sincerely, George Nelson Gregory III (formerly known as G.N Gregory IV). :)

|Beckie Saar Leone||RE: Mary Hostetler Mishler|
Hey Renee, I'm so glad you replied. The answer to "am I related to Mary Mishler" is NO, I am not. She is a second cousin to a dear family friend Sarah "Sadie" M Tharp. Antie Sadie was my Grandmothers best friend and I loved her dearly. I added her to my family tree and have found a distant connection between her husband and my paternal grandmother which is just wild that they were connected at all. It is the "justification" for me having Antie Sadie in my tree.
I did notice that you are a regular contributor like myself. I mostly deal with the people that enter entire graveyards. So I was pleased that you responded to me. Not everyone does. I have had tremendous success and am enjoying my journey on Find A Grave. Wow, have I learned a lot of information here. It is rather like a companion to ancestry.com, you can't have one without the other!
I live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and retired. I spend most of my time in front of the computer with the TV on in the background. Real healthy lifestyle!
Well Renee, thank again for writing and good luck in your journey, too.

Renee, thank you for your quick attention to my suggestions. Very appreciated.
|Louis Roth||RE: Thanks SO much!|
it makes me feel good to know you are pleased and this small effort helped you out.
you have no idea how many folks have done the same and more for me.
let me know if you need anything else.
I walked around for 20 min to find it ...tricky numbering in that section and hardly any markers to get your bearings.

If you give me the names of the people so I know which memorials you're referring to I'd be happy to transfer them to you.

|Debbie J||RE: Memorial # 50596156 is my relative!|
I have photographed the entire Point Cemetery and there are no other Gregorys in that cemetery. They could be buried in the Manchester IOOF. I have some of the records of Manchester IOOF but not all and did not find Edward or Margaret.
