Jonathan Stephens
Sorry that we couldn't provide the information you required. As it was this marker was one of the mysteries we encountered in a photographic survey we completed this fall for Wildwood Cemetery. As you can see only the last names are listed on the marker and there are no individual stones and any funeral home temporary markers are long gone.

We ran the name Stephens on the newspaper file of the Brockway Record kept by the Brockway Historical Society and found only a James Stephens Obituary that was published in the 6/23/1899 issue. The website is copies can be ordered at

Simon Stevens
You posted a flower on the grave entry for Simon Stevens indicating that he was the son of Amasa Stevens and grandson of Thomas Stevens. I would like to know what documentation you found linking Thomas. I have seen it as both Thomas and David Buck, but the documentation has always been "word of mouth". Amasa is my husband's 3rd great grandfather. Any information you have that links Thomas to Amasa would be greatly appreciated!!

RE: Hannah Thomas

Sorry I did not answer your question sooner. I work rotating shift work, and with the holiday season and all I did not pay attention to my email accounts very well.

The answer is yes I am "related" in a round about sort of way. James Boyd is an ancestor of my brother's stepson's wife's father (and so on). She wanted me to research in depth into her family to prove or disprove that there is a strong Scottish ancestry in her past.

I get just a little caught up in what I am doing with this genealogy stuff and go way beyond in some of my research. Because of that I now am sitting on a family tree much larger than I ever anticipated, and has gone back farther than I could have imagined possible to go. And yet there seems to be many, many more years of research to do - so onward I go.

Thank you for your information and time

Hannah Thomas

I was wondering if you may know how Hannah Thomas was related to James & Harriet Boyd. Census information for 1880 & 1900 indicates she was "his" aunt but as of today I have not found that connection. Thanks for any pointers you can provide. Doug Moyer (

RE: Daniel Porter Bates and Emily A Stearns
Hi Michelle, I presume you know Daniel and Emily Bates had a daughter - Viletta Julia Bates. Viletta Julia Bates married Harry Putnam Cole. They had two sons: Harold Bates Cole and Lowell Vincent Cole. Both sons married. Harold had at least one son, Robert who may still be alive but in his nineties. Lowell may have had children, but I don't know. Bob

RE: Daniel Porter Bates and Emily A Stearns
Hi, I don't have much information on the Stearns side of the family, but here is what I have:
Emily's Parents:
Father: William H Stearns, b. ca 1815 in New York state, d. Michigan
Mother: Viletta (Baker) Stearns, b. 28 Apr 1815 in Penfield, Monroe, New York, d. 18 Jun 1851 in Bedford, Monroe, Michigan
Emily's Siblings:
William H Stearns, b. ca 1839, d. 1903 in Hillsdale County, Michigan buried in Somerset Cemetery
S. V. Stearns, b. 1841, d. 1841
The son, Wm Henry Stearns' death certificate has a name of a ?son? as correspondent. Viletta Baker's family go way back. I can send you a chart of that tree by email. For Stearns descendents check census records. Emily appears in the 1850 and 1860 fed censuses, Emily's brother, Wm Henry, probably appears in Hillsdale county censuses. Wm Henry's death certificate is available on

Hi, Just a note to say I am a first cousin twice removed from Daniel Porter Bates. I have information on the Bates line that goes back to about 1637. Bob

Mary Ann Hubbard
I photographed and posted your requested picture of tombstone for Mary Ann Hubbard at Moore Cemetery in St Clair Co, MI. According to the stone, Mary died 10 Jul 1863, aged 30 years, 4 months. According to 1860 U S Federal Census for Emmett, St Clair Co, MI, she was age 28 at that time.
