Bio and Links
Bio Photo These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They may or may not sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead.

~ Robert G. Ingersoll

In the end, never let yourself become complacent to those who have went before us, always make time to remember the sacrifices that have been made for us by our Ancestors and the Men and Women of our Armed Forces who have guarded our Constitution with their lives, some gave all to secure our rights, liberties and freedom, 100's of thousands never came home....let us not forget as that would indeed make those, lives lost in vein...

A Nation which forgets its Defenders, will itself be forgotten ..

Hi Michael,

Thank you for sending the information about a possible 3rd wife of William's (Helen Nielson Miller). I did find the 1940 census with the two of them and sons Shirl Allen and James B. As I could find no marriage record or obituary showing proof of this marriage, I listed the info in the 'note' section.

Thanks for your help,

RE: Hassell S. Coward
Hi Michael, sounds great--thank you! I'll keep your completed sections in mind as I go through Russ's work. I'm from Maryland, and I have resources to find many of his 'missing' Maryland entries. Russ is from Delaware, and working on several states.
Keep in touch!

Hassell S. Coward
Hello Michael, thank you for the beautiful picture of Hassell's name on the Wall, and the extensive history that you so kindly added. I'm helping Russ Pickett (you may have come across him). I'm locating and photographing WWII casualties' graves/cenotaphs from Maryland for him, and adding some photo requests from overseas ABMC cemeteries as I go.
Russ Pickett's web site for Maryland can be found at:
He is also working on Delaware, New York, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
I was at the Normandy American Cemetery last June for the anniversary of the landing, and picked up every photo request there posted before around May 30th when I left. It was a very moving experience being there.
Thanks again,
Dan Phelan
