Family history researcher for over 45 years. Husband of Cindy Lou Fox m. 23 November 1986.
His interest in genealogy was piqued by a great aunt, of whom he was very fond. She lived with his family during his early childhood and had done a good job of recording information when visiting the English cousins the Misses Badley at "Winterseeds" Grasmere, Westmoreland in the Lake District and their brother John Haden Badley. She also had great interest in heraldry and exhibited some skill at practicing this art.
Son of Beatrice Louise (Dickman) and Paul Marion Swarm. He was born and spent his early years in Decatur, Illinois. His teen years and young adulthood were in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Higher education began at University High School followed by Illinois State University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and University of Maryland.
Practical efforts with genealogy began during his teenage years at Chautauqua, Illinois where he enjoyed talking with cousins and other cottage owners that had known his great grandmother and visiting area cemeteries.
The challenges of life and its attendant responsibilities have brought many interruptions to active research. Somehow he would always return to both the effort to learn more of the fabric of history and those threads woven by family and friends into this tapestry called life. The next goal is to see that this connectedness gets preserved.
After the children were grown, and his wife's and his physical health required fewer career responsibilities he once again returned to this charished avocation. As historian for two of his wife's family reunions: The friends and family of George Philip Fox and Sophia (Bussard) Fox and Ivan Milton Brown and Alta Mae (Royer) Brown, both of which meet annualy, I started to work extensively on the Antietam four county area of Franklin/Adams Counties, Pennsylvania and Frederick/Washington Counties, Maryland. So far my total computer database comprises over 300,000 unique names.
He first learned of Find A Grave, when he was doing a Google search to find films by Eric Rhodes, a friend of his long time partner and good friend, Edgar de Evia and his.
Immediately he saw the resource that this could become and started to become active in using this as one way to preserve and make available the research of many years. He was drawn by the warm fellowship of the partners in this effort through the FORUMS and the balance of information that could be posted in both words and photographs.
His primary objective is to get as much information recorded as possible. He tries to be as accurate as possible and to provide hyper text links between the interments, that these may help someone else in their genealogical search. Look for the highlighted text, as in this bio, on the memorial pages and often you will be able to trace generations back even across the seas. When he photographs a cemetery he tries to cover every marker first. Then to go back and try to improve on the quality of the photographs as time permits. He always tries to show the marker to it's best advantage and represent each person with respect and honor. It is not always possible to trim and clean each marker at the time of initial photography and his goal is to form a record of the data and the person first. For cemeteries that are near by and for persons to whom I have a direct connection over time I do try to trim and get better photographs over time. My goal with family data and links is to give the keys that will permit a family member to find their roots and "flesh out" the information more with oral history that they have heard. I make every effort to be accurate and complete in presenting the information that I have. I believe in telling it "like it is." If it happened, it's part of history and should be there for future generations to know, without judgment.
He is also a contributor to Wikipedia an online open source encyclopedia. You may see some of his additions there on his user page.

I was looking at your request for a photo for Barbara and looking at her memorial. I looked in the IL Marriage Index and found Ella Ford married Augusta Schmahl 26 Nov 1880 in Clinton County.

There are 6 Schmahl's listed in the Carlyle City Cemetery including August and Leah Schmahl.
Also I have photos for the Beckemeyer Cemetery and there are 10 Ayers buried there but a few no longer have stones. Otune is buried there in a family plot but her stone is the only one left in the plot. She has no dates on her stone but that she was 6yrs, 8m, and 12 days. When I saw her name on Barbara's memorial it caught my attention.

You have memorials in Old Brownsville Church of the Brethren cemetery for Reno Eaton (9918003) and Evelyn Eaton (9917995). They are NOT buried in that cemetery. They are actually in Brownsville Heights - Evelyn (63059681) and Reno (106583330) = both with a picture of the stone. Can you please delete your memorials from Old Brownsville? Hello,
I noticed that you merged some memorials: those of G. Wilbur, Ethel, and Harry Brown, all buried in Thurmont, Maryland. Your page states that they are buried in the Blue Ridge Cemetery, which is inaccurate. They are buried in the Weller Cemetery, which is right next to the Blue Ridge Cemetery, but they are two different cemeteries.
