I have just started Find A Grave and working on my family lines. Morris Pote's father Thomas Butland Pote & Rachel Edwards are my great-great grandparents. Thought you might want to add the following articles to Morris Pote's memorial.
Morris B. Pote
Was born in Harmony township July 18, 1844. He lived on a farm in section 31 practically all the younger years of his life. When the civil war broke out he was among the first to answer his country's call. July 28, 1862, Mr. Pote, although an extremely young man, enlisted in company A., ninety-first Indiana regiment, Captain Carson commanding. The regiment was in several sharp engagements before they had been in service very long. They were about Ringgold, Ga., until Atlanta had been taken, and then moved toward Nashville after Hood, the confederate commander. They then embarked on steamboats bound for Cincinnati, going to Washington, thence to Alexandria,Va., where they boarded ship for Smithfield, N.C., destined for Fort Anderson. From Wilmington, N.C., the regiment moved to Goldsboro, that state, to form a junction with Sherman, and were engaged at Raleigh when the confederate force under Johnston surrendered. Mr. Pote received his discharge in June, 1865. Thomas Pote, the father of the subject of this sketch, was born in England and came to Harmony township in the early 30's. The mother also came from England. The are only two children living, Morris B. Pote and Henry Pote. Mr. Pote was married May 6, 1866 to Miss Mary Schnee, a native of Harmony township. They have five children, all daughters. He has always been a republican in politics serving as committeeman for more than a score of years. He was appointed postmaster in New Harmony July 1, 1897. He belongs to the Odd Fellows and John K. Highman Post G. A. R. No. 414. (Illustrated Atlas of Posey County, Indiana 1900)
