RE: Weisinger/Wessinger
Thank you Betty! I suspected that the spelling was simply changed over time, but also wanted to be sure about that before making assumptions and then adding incorrect information to the family tree. I only recently started researching the Weisinger's branch, and I am glad I did - as they seem to have good information leading back to Europe...which is something I am hoping to find with other branches, but those seem to be much more difficult. Thanks again for the clarification!

Weisinger/Wessinger
I'm hoping you might have some information about the Weisinger/Weissenger/Wessinger family - specifically if the last names are actually separate families with last names that are similar, or if there was a time when the name was changed. Christiann Eliza Weisinger Little is my 3rd g-grandmother and I am wondering how all these names associate beyond her.

Weisinger and Durnell Family
Hello Betty,

William Mathias Durnell is my great grandfather, and Icephenia Harriet Kyle is my great grandmother. That would make Martha Weisinger my great great grandmother. My grandmother Mary Jane Durnell was named after her grandmother Mary Jane Bennett Kyle.

I have been to Antrim Cemetery many times to bury family.

I have a a vintage photo of an incredibly beautiful young woman probably in her twenties. It is on cardboard stock. I found it in my grandmother's old photo album. (My grandmother was born in 1886, this album is very very old. Her dress is black high neck with ruffle, and she has family traits of my great grandfather Durnell. I am thinking she is a Weisinger, and the photo around the 1880's. Would love to identify it!

RE: James Sanders Hornsby
Good morning Betty,
I am working on the Hornsby family and am wondering, has anyone ever figured out the maiden name of Christina Martha, James Sanders Hornsby's wife?
~~~~
You probably already have this information, but another Hornsby researcher gave this to me several years ago:
Christina (last name unknown) was born approximately 1774. She said in the 1850 census that she had real estate valued at $1,500. Christina Hornsby made her will on 6 November 1817. She named her deceased husband, Henry, and their four children. She left James Sanders Hornsby a 221-acre tract of land on Ten Mile Branch, waters of Crane Creek, which she said, was purchased by her late husband, Henry. Her son Nathaniel Hornsby received a 200-acre tract of land on Crane Creek conveyed to Christina on 10 October 1817. Her two daughters, each, received a 150-acre tract.
Christina appointed friends, Jacob Huffman of Lexington and James S. Guignard of Columbia, as executors of her will. The will was witnessed by Samuel D. Reed, C. Barillon and Dorcas Faust. It was probated on 23 August 1859 in Richland Co., SC. All of the witnesses were dead or had moved by that time. James S. Guignard was "James Sanders" the same name as Christina's first child's name. Was James Saunders Hornsby named for Guignard? Was he a relative, or was he a friend?
In the 1840 census of Richland Co., SC, Christina Hornsby was listed as being between 60-70 years old. She had nine slaves.
Tombstone:
In Memory of Christena Hornsby -
wife of Henry Hornsby dec'd -
who departed this life August 16, 1859 - aged 89 years 7 months, & 4 days -
Why should our tears in sorrow
flow when God recalls his own,
and bids them leave a world of woe for an immortal crown.
Is not even death a gain to those whose life to God was given.
Gladly to earth their eyes they close to open them in heaven.
