Do It Now
I expect to pass through this world
but once.
Any good thing, therefore, that I can do
or any kindness that I can show
to any fellow human being
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Farrar Photo Requests - Oakridge Cemetery
Hello! FYI I currently have pics of all of their headstones but I didn't like how some of them came out so I didn't post any. I had planned to return and re-shoot. You should know that their headstones will be difficult to photograph. The stones are light gray, hard to read and somewhat reflective and shiny. (I'm looking at an eye level, straight on shot I have of Frank's and it's hard to read because of the angle) In addition, the name inscription has no coloring so it blends in very easily making it even more difficult to read. To get a decent pic I may have to stand above and at a slight angle to the headstone. It's your call and I will post whatever kind of pics you want I just wanted to let you know what we're up against. Finally, in case they're family, also buried there is a Catherine Mirkes #136389945 and John "Jack" Rhodes #136390618 (right next to Olive Farrar). Let me know what you think. I'm planning on going out there tomorrow. Regards, Stacey

Leonard Farrar
I received your request. Alas there is not a shred of evidence to support the assertion that Leonard Farrar is the son of Richard Farrar. The source for this claim is a descendant of Leonard Farrar who collaborated with Alvanh Holmes in her book Some Farrar Island Descendants.

The only recorded children of Richard Farrar and Elizabeth Sanders are Stephen, Shadrack, Priscilla and Rene.

The descendants of Leonard tried to morph Rene into Renard then Renard into Leonard. The same people, tried to rationalize their morphing, but morphing Stephen into Seth Farrar.

Fortunately an Indenture between the heirs of Shadrack Farrar, (son of Richard) and John Young, dated Oct 1783 has surfaced and it is signed by Seth Farrar and Stephen Farrar.

Leonard per his own testimony (RW Pension) was born 1764, Rene was born 1761, there is no record of the birth of Renard, Seth or Elizabeth who were born after Richard Farrar left the Anglican profession. He sold his property in 1767 and apparently migrated to Pittsylvania Co, apparently in the entourage of Col Samuel Harris, a missionary Baptist preacher who was working Goochland County where the Farrars were living.

The parentage of Leonard Farrar can be best deduced from the name he gave his oldest son, John Sutton Farrar. The naming tradition of that time in the south is called "Old Jones" and oldest son was named for paternal Grandfather.

Leonards subsequent children were named for sons of William Farrar IV. That fact has led to some inferring that Leonard was son of Richard.

John Sutton Farrar Jr, was a neighbor of William Farrar IV, deeds record bordering property boundaries.

The historical record of John Sutton Farrar falls off with one mention of a law suit involving his wife Susannah Patman.

Modern genealogists ignore lost trails and assume there were no offspring.

However Leonard Farrar naming his oldest son John Sutton Farrar is the best evidence that John Sutton Farrar and Susannah his wife had at least one child, and apparently died while Leonard was a minor, leaving him an orphan to be taken in by Richard Farrar, the only real family he knew.

Leonard is a very uncommon name for that region at that time, but there is one other Leonard I've encountered, from a family associated with the Farrars in Virginia, and that is Leonard Young.

Will be glad to transfer Dora's Memorial to you and your family, which is my dream for each person's final resting place that I photograph. May God bless you and your family and have a good day.

Hello - I am very sorry and I disagree. I think it's a letter G. on the gravestone. Thanks, Cara

Farrar Family
Hi Becky,
Several of the Farrar memorials I will keep because they were very close friends, neighbors, and/or God-parents. The others I will transfer. Please go to my page and read the message from the Farrar gentleman that needs help with his family tree. I'm not able to help him (due to lack of info) but hope you can.

Potters in Bellefontaine
Would you like for me to remove all lot shots and monument shots for your Potters and just leave the photo of the individual marker? I'll be happy to do that for other families you are related to also...I know that 5 photos isn't always enough!
