Jonathan Brown Coombs
The stone as transcribed by Ken & Dudy Cole in June 1982 said:

Capt. J. B. Coombs, died in Havana from Bark [sic] Lizzie Gillespie, July 14, 1873, at age 40 yrs 1 mo 14 dys

Probably this is a memorial stone - getting a corpse from Cuba to Maine in July would not have been pleasant.

Thanks for all the work you did trying to find William Case in the Dana United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dana, NC. I appreciate your efforts, even though he doesn't appear to have a readable grave stone.

Clara E. Coombs
Yes my yellow lab Hannah is 12 and still a puppy!

The source for Clara's information was the headstone transcription from the 1970's for MOMA (Maine Old Cemetery Association), whose records are in the state library in Augusta. Since the dates are so different, this must be a different Clara.

If we do not know for sure that she is the daughter of the same parents as "your" Clara, would you like me to detach her from them on Find A Grave?

Thanks, Barry!

Clara E. Coombs
Yes I believe there must be 2 different Clara Coombs. It seems that after the first Clara died, the next female born subsequently was also named Clara. That happened frequently. They were both presumably named after their grandmother Clarissa.

Edward and the first Clara were probably twins, since the ages at death indicate Edward was born in June or July 1857, and the first Clara was born July 1, 1857.

I hope you can create a memorial for the second Clara and transfer the photo.

If you want me to transfer any Coombs to you, just do so through the "edit" request button.

You filled a photo request for me a few months ago and I have been belated in acknowledging it. Thank you so much for taking the time - I truly appreciate all that you do!
