|The genealogy bug hit several years ago! I started researching just immediate families and it has expanded into so much more. |
I have been photographing cemeteries for quite a while now and much to my delight my oldest son has taken an interest in it now and he accompanies me when I go! A large portion of the photos I take are not related to me in any way. Please contact me if I have a memorial for one of your ancestors, I would be happy to update information (if they are one of my ancestors) or transfer them to you (if they are not related to me).

|Michael Laflin||Obituary For Dorothy D. Welsh Smith|
I am Michael Laflin, a member of findagrave.com and the pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Oblong, IL. I wanted you to know that Dorothy Dolores Welsh Smith, who was born on September 28, 1911, died on November 24, 2016, which was this past Thanksgiving Day. I was Dorothy's pastor, and I officiated at her funeral yesterday. I am going to add her obituary in this message, so that you may add in on her memorial page, which you created in 2008. Her memorial number is #31562521. Thanks, Michael Laflin.
Dorothy Dolores (Welsh) Smith, 105, of Oblong, IL. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 6:30 am at Ridgeview Care Center.
Dorothy was born in Kibbie, IL on September 28, 1911. She was the daughter of U.S. (Wesley) Welsh and Minna May (Young) Welsh. On February 8, 1929 she married the love of her life Ocie V. Smith, Sr.
Dorothy attended school in Stoy where her mother was a teacher. She graduated from Oblong Township High School and graduated from Evansville Business School. She was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, having joined the church at age 15 on October 24, 1926, completing 90 years of church membership. She was a member of Eastern Star, a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and played in a number of card clubs.
Looking at Dorothy’s life, it was easy seeing what was most important to her, faith, family, and baking. She loved reading her well-worn Bible, spending time with family, cooking the most wonderful meals, playing cards, working puzzles, spending time in Florida, watching The Weather Channel, Larry Bird until he retired and Lebron James play basketball.
Dorothy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Jerry J. and Marilyn Smith, New Kent, Virginia; two daughters and son-in-law, Vivienne Ackman and Helen and John Larrabee, and daughter-in-law Janet Smith, all of Oblong; fourteen grandchildren, John Ackman, Steve Ackman, Barb (Ackman) Simmons, Jim Ackman, Scott Ackman, Ocie Smith III, Mike Smith, Lori (Smith) Dart, Theresa (Smith) Campbell, Valinda (Smith) Plott, J.T. Smith, Wesley Smith, Lisa (Larrabee) Lockhart and Mary Kathleen (Larrabee) Moore; thirty great-grandchildren; twenty three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, two brothers, David Welsh and Wesley Welsh (infant), husband, Ocie V. Smith, Sr., son, Ocie Smith, Jr., son-in-law, Carol Ackman
A celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the funeral home. The family requests that an expression of sympathy may take form of a contribution to either the Oblong Food Pantry or NOW (Nutrition on Weekends) with envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, P.O. Box 121, Oblong, IL 62449.

Misty, I had requested awhile back that you add Paul's birth date and connect him to his parents. I would appreciate it if you could do that for me. He is my 3rd cousin and would like to see him connected to his family. Thanks so much!!!!

|K Perry||Chester J Middlesworth in Mound Cemetery in Cowden Shelby Illinois|
Can you please change Chester John Middlesworth's birth year to 1854*. His stone in Mound Cemetery in Cowden, Shelby County Illinois says his birth year is 1854. But the findagrave page says he was born 1851. If you could please change the birth date to 1854 i would appreciate it. Thank you .

Thank you so much for the transfers of my relatives, but more importantly, thank you for creating and maintaining their pages. I am grateful for your work!
|Matthew Carver||Mound Cemetery|
I am curious as to whether you are related t Lockart family members buried in the Mound Cemetery? This is my mothers side of the family. I am trying to work on linking the family together on find a grave. I also have several other family members buried in Mound Cemetery. So I was trying to see if we might be related.
Thanks, Matthew W. Carver
Are you related to the Carr's? My great grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Carr Hitchens, sister of Clark H. Carr.
