Bio and Links
Bio Photo I stumbled across this site over ten years ago, made a few entries, and wandered off. I returned after three years and realized it was a wonderful opportunity to do something meaningful, for both the dead and the living.

I am currently working on recording cemeteries in my home area, as well as those in Blair Co, Pa., my area of interest. My particular passion is recording stones that are 'trying hard to soon become unreadable'.

I am always thrilled when I can take an almost unreadable or broken tombstone, and, with a little research, successfully identify the person. Some have taken me years, but the harder the chase, the more satisfying the victory, especially knowing that someone out there may be searching for that elusive ancestor or relative...

I try to put as much application into stranger's graves as I would those of my own family, as I consider this a labor of love.

If anyone is helped by my efforts and wants to say thank-you, considering leaving a flower for my sponsored memorials. All tokens are appreciated.

I am a "no-dispositions-unknown" contributor.

......................................

Please note - I try to act on SACs within 72 hours. If I do not respond within a week, feel free to resend; I may have missed it. I will not make links, however, to burial unknowns.

In the past I have been very liberal with transfers, including many out-of-guidelines transfers. I loved turning memorials over to family.

Sadly however, having been 'burned' a number of times recently, I am rethinking that policy. Most of the memorials I have happily transferred over have had not one iota of additional information added by the transferee, aside from links, often times to 'burial unknowns.' When things ARE added, they are frequently cut and paste entries from Ancestry or FamilySearch indices, making the memorial unattractive and about about as personable as a baseball score card. Often too, the transferees get bored and wander away from the site, abandoning their memorials and when I find new info to add they never reply.

If you request an out-of-guidelines transfer, I will review your current memorials to see if you are good stewards of them, and base my decision on that. I am very happy to add additional information to 'flesh-out' existing memorials, and if you work with me on that I may later reconsider a transfer that I did not initially grant.

RE: Hershberger Cemetery, Elklick Twp.
I have attempted to communicate with her but she is adamant that she has correctly placed her memorials in the correct cemetery and refuses to delete or move them. She is quite rude about it and my communication with her became nasty when it started into my private email as well. My only recourse it seemed was to put the comment on the site.

I hate that they are there and are incorrect, but I'm at a loss how to correct without her cooperation and without deleting the cemetery and starting again. Any thoughts?

Maybe you can reach out to her and she'll listen to you.

John A Kelly @ Fairview
Hi Zella,
We have a project in operation to replace the headstones on the Inner Soldiers Circle. Corp John A Kelly's should be replaced with a legible modern VA headstone by the end of summer 2016.
Thank you,
Don Coho

Zella,

I would like to thank you for the pictures of my great great grandfathers stone. I am in the middle of putting a family tree together and this is great documentation. The story of his murder was recently shared with me about the billiard cue ball. If you have any other documentation that about Peter that you could share with me I would be more than happy to see document and learn.

Thank you again!!!!!

Ludwig Wissinger
Me again. I just found Ludwig's Will. No Margaret or Margaretha is named as a child. However, online trees state that he married 1781 but his first children weren't born until 3 or 4 years later. He very well could have had my gal the year after he married, which fits. Supposedly Margaretha Wissinger and Michael Mock married 1797. She would have been abt. 16. They moved to Ohio in 1827. Maybe that's why she's not named in the Will, because she moved away? Just thinking. Can find no proof of anything anywhere.

Ludwig Wissinger
Zella, I'm just beginning this research, but I found a "Ludwick Wessinger" who bought land in Cumberland Co. PA in 1797. He's the only "Wissinger" I can find in Cumberland Co. around that time. In the 1790 census it appears he's in Bedford Co. By 1810 he's in Cambria Co. (spelled Lodwick Wissinger).

Supposedly my ancestor Michael Mock of Cumberland Co. married a gal named Margaretha Grace Wissinger in 1797. I'm thinking Ludwig/Ludwick might be her father. Your thoughts?

RE: David Sprague
Thanks Zella, good thing I didn't delete the link from Catherine to David, or change his stats when you first sent a request for correction. The Hier's are my maternal ancestors, and would love to see what you're working on.
