RE: Claudette Colbert Photo Correction
Hi, H.Phan

I apologise that my last paragraph may have sounded a little harsh. And I do appreciate your patient and explanatory reply. However, you had quite surprised me by writing from out of the blue, about something with which I had had no involvement. I just wished to set you on the right path for your suggestion/correction.

Cemeteries in Barbados are a subject close to my heart (and to my heritage as well, as my maternal line settled there from Britain as Planters, less than 11 years after arrival of the first settlers). It was exciting to learn that Ms. Colbert, whose former estate I visited many years ago and who I knew was buried on the Island, rests just outside of Speightstown, in a cemetery probably few non-Islanders know exists. It was great that you managed to discover this, _and_ that you were able to actually visit Ms. Colbert's grave!

May I please clarify some terminology, however. Entries here, whether Famous or non-famous, are generally referred to as Memorials. On the other hand, a profile is the term for each contributor's personal bio page - it is the place where we are currently exchanging notes. A cemetery's main page is usually called just about that, a cemetery mainpage (not to be confused with the site's mainpage, or 'home'). So the wording of your reply had me quite confused for a bit.

Photos posted by contributors to a cemetery mainpage, stay with that mainpage. We are not permitted to post a cemetery 'gateshot' to any individual memorial, just to a mainpage. If Admin chooses to approve a particular submitted photo as an Official Cemetery photo, it will then appear also on each of the memorials within that cemetery. Some contributors choose to 'turn off' the cemetery photo on a given memorial if they have several grave images they wish to add to the entry, but otherwise most memorials will usually at least have an official cemetery photo on it, if one has been submitted and approved.

When a memorial is moved from one Find-a-Grave cemetery into another Find-a-Grave cemetery, it will _lose_ the original official cemetery photo, and acquire the new official cemetery photo, if one is there.

So the picture of Saint Peters Parish Church will, indeed, disappear from Ms Colbert's memorial, if/when Admin chooses to move it to another Find-a-Grave cemetery -- such as the one you've now brought to their attention.

Are you aware that any contributor can create a new cemetery, as long as they have carefully ensured that the one they're looking for isn't already here in the first place? The FAQs explain how to do it, including the adding of full location details, descriptive notes, and GPS coordinates to create a Google map on the cemetery mainpage. =]) The creating contributor then becomes somewhat the 'custodian' of that cemetery, although Admin _always_ has the option, the right, and the power to change it, if/when "fix" suggestions are received or seen as necessary.

Perhaps I'm saying too much here. Perhaps not. But your profile indicates you've only been a member for one day, and there's a tremendous richness to the features on Find-a-Grave, which can take some length of time to learn about. So I apologise in advance if I'm telling you things you already know. I was a 'newbie' once too, well over a year ago, and I'm _still_ learning about new aspects of the site as it grows and evolves on a regular basis. =])

I hope you'll enjoy your time here on Find-a-Grave -- it's fun and can be very fulfilling and rewarding. I look forward to viewing any memorial or photo contributions you may choose to make to the site in the future -- _especially_ any you might add to the cemeteries in Barbados!!

All the best,
=]) Beth

RE: Claudette Colbert Photo Correction
Hello. I regret to reply that you are mistaken about my involvement, of which there has been none, in the placement on this site of the Find-a-Grave memorial for Ms Claudette Colbert.

Ms Colbert's memorial, #22371, was created, composed, and is maintained, by the owner of Find-a-Grave, Mr. Jim Tipton of California, and his administrative staff.

This is evident from the information which appears near the bottom of the memorial, below the biography:
Maintained by: Find A Grave
Record added: May 17, 2001
Find A Grave Memorial# 22371

Furthermore, the cemetery mainpage for Saint Peter Parish Church Cemetery was likely also created by someone on the staff of Find-a-Grave, as that page has also existed since at least 2001.

My only role in the cemetery mainpage for Saint Peter's Parish Church Cemetery, was to add, early in 2010, a photograph that I took of the church when I last visited the island. I also added an entry to that cemetery in memory of my Great-Uncle, Harry Lloyd Seale, for which I posted a portrait photo as well.

Any member of Find-a-Grave may contribute photos of churchyards and cemeteries for their respective mainpage(s), and this is both welcomed and encouraged by Mr. Tipton.

Therefore, I thank you for your comments on my Public Profile, but in writing to me you are mis-directing your information, and in particular, your very interesting discovery of the other cemetery location for Ms Colbert.

In the Discussion Forums, there is a section at the top entitled: "Famous Graves". Within it, again at the top, is an Administrative thread called "Official: Famous Memorial Updates and Corrections". That is where you should enter your comments to suggest further information for Ms Colbert's final resting place in Barbados.

The Discussion Forums require a separate login from the commemmorative/memorials section of Find-a-Grave. Further details can be had by reading the Find-a-Grave FAQs / Help With Find-a-Grave section, accessible from the site's mainpage.

I see that you are very new to Find-A-Grave, and may not yet understand how the site works. May I respectfully suggest that you review the FAQs in their entirety, as well as peruse some of the threads in the Discussion Forums, before you jump to any further conclusions about who does or is responsible for what, on this website.
