This is a great way to show your support and appreciation for the information already on Find A Grave. Get out and volunteer to take some photos's. Photo volunteering has helped me find, as a new member, different ideas on how to search for my own elusive ancestors. |
I am currently researching the Dumas, McEntyre, Layfield, Hathcock & Autrey name from St Clair, County Alabama.
The Hathcock line is also from Cullmann
Found recently are McEntyre's in Gordon County & Habersham County, Ga and Etowah County Al .. The McEntyre's were also in Rutherford County N.C.
The Dumas family in Hill County, Texas are brother's and sister's of William Andrew Dumas. I see over and over again Will is missing from Ancestry.com family trees.
In Alabama , the Spinks of Hokes Bluff are of interest.
If photo's and/or any information are not correct please let me know. However, I will work only on requested photo's.
Please add any nicknames, maiden names, or if they had a military marker. Some of the larger cemeteries are without any records and any added information is always helpful. If you do not add information to the request it may not appear on the list when we search. It will only show on the main page and if my wi-fi does not work, I cannot see the main page at the cemetery.
Any transfer requested is available unless it is in my family. I would also like to know the connection. This is just to make sure you are not
a commercial entity.
On my managed memorials, please no recent death certificates attached or word for word obits as it could unknowingly violate privacy laws.
Please acknowledge all the volunteers with each request. If you want the entire plot ask for it. It saves resources and time and gives credit where credit is due. Some researcher's only want the one photo. It's a fantastic volunteer system to have as a resource.
Shame and double shame to the number hoarders who do not transfer. You know who you are. There is a higher power than your ego. I have people who will not transfer because they do not want their work to be incomplete. Where are their own ancestors?
My goal is not thousands of records. If in the future someones relative wants to look up a record. I would want them to see correct information. The information from photo's to be readable. Links to correct family members and at least enough research to show the family members in the cemetery. For me, just a name on a piece of paper would be a real disappointment
Note: All photo's are made with a Canon Rebel and edited with Adobe Photoshop. I try to enhance unreadable markers when possible. In these cases the photo is not noted especially for quality, but for information purposes.
Note: Ask for permission to copy any photo.

it has very same bdate and death date...
Hi Gina, I want to thank you again for all your unselfish work at the Center Baptist Cemetery and willingness to transfer memorials to distant family members wanting to add info and link them. It's people like you that make F-A-G such a great place to honor our ancestors.
In the little over 6 years I have been here, I run into all kinds. The lady who had listed my dad's mother's grandfather, I was mad at for over a year because she wouldn't even respond to my requests. I finally got Katrina to transfer him to me. Then later I found that she has since passed away herself and was probably sick at the time. She had listed over 50,000 veterans, many from the Civil War.
When I was busy and forgot to list my dad's only brother, 3 days later I learned that some obit lister had already listed him and had a crude comment about following F-A-G rules that didn't include aunts, uncles, cousins, of the woman your dad slept with last year. Well, I told Katrina, and I got my uncle.
But mostly I've found great people who don't cling to them for dear life when someone just wants to add all they can to make them seem more like real people instead of just statistics.
I especially liked one lady's view when I was asking for people who weren't even my family, but one I was working on for a friend. She had listed over 135,000 and only managed about 75,000. She said that if you care enough to add info, you care enough to manage the memorial and I though, smart lady. Can you imagine having 100s of 1000s of memorials and having people wanting you to add info ?
I've done several small deserted local cemeteries completely from library records and when someone says they want a memorial, it's theirs. I realize this has been rather long, but I thought you deserved a pat on the back for your work and also to warn you that my mom's family is from Georgia and there may be more in Center Baptist, so don't be too surprised if I come a knocking again soon. Thank You, Jim jones
HI Gina, Thank you for transferring my grandfather's sisters, Ella and Vicey. Now my sister tells me about another one in the same cemetery and I will send you a request for her and her husband. Jim

Hi Gina, Thank you very much for the transfers of my G. grandparents. Jim

I hope you are doing well. It's been awhile since we last spoke-Just wanted to drop a note and let you know I was able to pay a visit to Daniel and Mary's resting place today with one of my young daughters. She is getting the junior "genie" bug. She couldn't believe that she was there, looking at her 3rd great grandparents' gravestone (in an excited way-ha!)
They have a nice plot, near the front of the church, close to the highway and church marquee. It seems in good condition without any damage or vandalism of the sorts. Whomever trims the grass there is doing a nice job of keeping the plot cleared off. :)
Blessings to you!

I asked for a transfer on July 10th but just noticed that I didn't put my number down. It is
(#47973273). Clara Smith Pierce is my husband's grandmother, and her husband, M.O. Pierce is his step grandfather. Thanks again!
