Bio and Links
Bio Photo As a child, my mother was always bringing us on Cemetery hunts and we spent many hours making grave rubbings and walking thru the monuments . I get great satisfaction in being a Find a Grave volunteer and am on my own search for my family who went before me and helped to make my life the blessing that it is. I'm gratified to know that I am able to unite in such a small way, families who are in search of each other.

Family names I am researching are Curtis, Hollis, Crofut, Burt, Gates, Melow, Sutherland, Watts, McKay, Cady, Sherwood, Pitts, Parker, Thompson, Pyle to name a few.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to this wonderful website and the intensely important business of perpetuating history by documenting the people and their contributions that have gone and lived before us, gave us life, and a reason to live. God Bless you all.

If you have time please visit my family's war veterans and a very special young man who I had the privilidge of knowing, Lt. Timothy Steele who died in Afganistan.

RE: Irene and Willimina Sutherland
You're very welcome! I'll have to try that trick with the aluminum foil sometime...

RE: Irene and Willimina Sutherland
It's possible that Irene doesn't have a stone. There are also several stones from the 1800's that are too weathered to read, and I haven't figured out how to make the legible yet. The last contact I had for anyone about Mount Hazel is this:
Beverly Alexander, D.Min.
Administration Division Manager I
Detroit Recreation Department
Executive Office
Northwest Activities Center
18100 Meyers Road
Detroit, MI 48235
224-1103 (Office)
224-1860 (Fax)

I last talked to her in 2012, so I don't know if she still works at that office. But if she left, her replacement may be able to help.

You're so thoughtful to take the time to let someone know the pictures are actually wanted. I'm so glad to know! :)

George M and Katie Curtis
I uploaded photos for George and his daughter, Katie. The inscription for Katie says:

Katie E
Dau of
G.M. and E. Curtis
Died Jan. 4, 1891
AE 18 yr, 3 m and 24 d

That would place her birth around Sept. 11, 1872, a couple of months before her father died.

The inscription on George's part of the stone (which they share) reads:

Geo. M. Curtis
Died
Nov. 17, 1872
AE 27 Yr
8 M, 19 D

The birth date on the memorial is Feb. 29, 1845, but 1845 was not a leap year. I would suspect his actual birth date was either Feb. 28, 1845 or the stone is wrong, he was actually 28 Yr, 8 M and 19 D, which would have made his birth date Feb. 29, 1844 (which was a leap year). not sure which is correct but hope this helps!
