Bio Photo You have my permission to use any headstone photo I have posted, as you wish.

If you are responding to me because of an "edit" I sent to you or a memorial I made, PLEASE include the memorial number or the URL to that page. A simple mention of their name is not enough.

I will gladly make changes or corrections, no matter how small, if you request them. PLEASE do this by clicking on "edit" at the upper-right corner of the memorial, use their form to notify me by email. If this is your loved one, I would prefer transferring management to you. Just ask, same process.

I'm always happy to transfer to any family member. I'll never understand the reluctance of some contributors to let go of the memorials of strangers simply because they've created them. That's why we do it isn't it? For their family to find them. That's why I do it.

I have always enjoyed visiting cemeteries, especially the older, historical sections, long before I knew any of the "residents"... I am a regular visitor to Lower Lake Cemetery as it is nearest to me and I have friends and family there.

I began making entries at Find a Grave, first with ancestor's info, my parents in Hayward, then Lower Lake Cemetery because I have lived here for so long, I knew or know of many of the "residents." I knew many of these people personally and/or their families. I am not related to any of them directly. Two sets of in-laws, including my husband, many friends, high-school teachers and classmates, the doctor that delivered my son, etc., etc. My son has eight grandparents in this cemetery counting the greats- and steps-. My parents are in a Hayward cemetery because they made their own pre-need arrangements. If they were here, I would take care of them too. Thanks to Find A Grave I am able to "visit" them, add virtual flowers and notes, gather them and their families into virtual cemeteries I made for that purpose, and so on. I love that we can request headstone photos for those distant graves and get them! Usually. I DON'T LOVE THE FUSS ABOUT COPYRIGHT ISSUES THAT OCCUR OCCASIONALLY.

Every time I start to work on my family tree, I get side-tracked in the local cemetery. Since the beginning of 2011, I have been systematically photographing all the tombstones there and making memorials here. I REPEAT, FEEL FREE TO USE ANY HEADSTONE PHOTOS I HAVE ADDED AS YOU WISH!

I am always researching AKRIDGE and HAVENHILL/HEAVENHILL/HIMMELBERGER family trees... when I'm not getting lost in my neighboring cemetery.

Happy hunting.

RE: Re: Harold Akridge #63956066
Thanks for your help, Judy!
I did the edit button for a couple of edits on my grandparent's memorials - but when it came to Harold's, I was just stumped.

I'm not sure what all the symbols on his headstone are, but that one diamond-shaped one with the green, on the upper right of his side of the headstone, is the patch for the 4th Infantry Division (I know this because it was also my unit when I was in the Army). You can see an oval-shaped heart in the middle of the symbols used to have his photo in it, but it was vandalized about a decade ago. The symbol on the bottom left is the Army's Combat Infantryman Badge. The one over that looks like a plow handle?? But he grew up in town, so I can't imagine that it's a farm thing. The one I really cannot identify is the bottom right - it looks to me like someone wearing a tank top, eating movie theater candy - and I know it's not!

Thanks again!

RE: Rose Family
Hi Judy,

I can't edit John's listing to remove his wife. The originator has to click on the relationships page for him and delete the spouse entry.

I think everything else looks good.

Judy, sorry it has take me so long in getting back to you. I have been under the weather just now getting back into things. I wanted to link Helen to her son Thomas W. Day 86810484 which you declined. I was wondering why. Since I have done research and talked with Thomas son and he has confirmed that helen is Thomas dad.

Amen Sister! This is my Mantra, too! :)

I'm always happy to transfer to any family member. I'll never understand the reluctance of some contributors to let go of the memorials of strangers simply because they've created them. That's why we do it isn't it? For their family to find them. That's why I do it.

It's funny, recently I requested a transfer and on the manager's profile bio it simply said, "PAY IT FORWARD".

Then, she proceeded to NOT transfer to me, never replied to my request, deleted my message on her board (so she obviously read it), and then transferred it to some stranger with no ties to the person, and that new manager refuses to relinquish the memorial.

Unfortunately, my relationship is not by blood, so I cannot appeal to Find A Grave administrators.

So sad that people deny transfers when the person asking is able to adequately explain/define the relationship and upload photos that only someone close would have, and add family links and personal bios.

So sad. So much for "Pay it forward". Ha.

They certainly are greener than my dead yard. I don't know what they are doing, but at another nearby cemetery, the flat marker was obscured by a thick layer of packed dirt. I had to stand on the marker and grind my heel into the dirt for some time to get it so I could brush it away. (I don't like to be disrespectful in this way but it seemed impossible to brush or wash the dirt away so the stone could be read.) I would not have said that marker had been moistened in quite some time to have the dirt so completely dry -- like cement -- all the way through, but the grass around it was green...
