Bio Photo Find-a-Grave rocks!

Please suggest a correction on a specific memorial using the Edit tabs. I welcome edits even if it's just a GPS, plot number, marker transcription or middle/maiden name etc. I like complete memorials.

I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life. Since 1988 I've been interested in my genealogy. I'm 25% Scottish, 12.5% Irish but I mostly descend from English families who came here 300-400 years ago. My immigrant ancestor, with the same last name, came to Massachusetts in the 1630's from France supposedly. I don't consider my self French, however, because it was so long ago and his genes have been watered down so much over the past 400 years.

If I did not have to work I would grow a big bushy red beard and buy a house with a porch. On that porch I would rock back and forth in my rocking chair, sporting a bad-ass kilt whilst learning to play the bag pipes....until I gave up 10 minutes later from being terrible at it.

If I was retired I would definitely travel the great continental 48 states in an RV searching out the historic landmarks of the USA. Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields would be on the list of places to visit. A 7th great-grandfather of mine was Gen. Artemas Ward (1727-1800.)

Don't let me die in an automobile
I wanna lie in an open field
want the snakes to suck my skin
want the worms to be my friends
want the birds to eat my eye
as here I lie
the clouds fly by

Let me know if you need a transfer if you can add more bio info. Hope everyone gets out there and photographs some stones - that is the main reason this site exists. Thanks.

***SORRY, I DO NOT LINK TO RELATIVES THAT DO NOT HAVE A BURIAL LOCATION. This is Find-a-GRAVE after all. (There are some exceptions of course: scattered ashes and the like, but even then, there could be a headstone somewhere.) There doesn't have to be a memorial for every person that ever lived on Earth. is good for that.****

Found this inscribed on a stone in Warwick, Ma.:

"Low in the ground my bed is made,
here in the dark alone I'm laid.
Depart my friends and let me rest,
I'm weary of this wilderness."

Found this on a find-a-grave profile:

Old Bones' profile poem"

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Hi Ryan - I added pictures of both Warren S. Russell and his wife Emma Russell.

Thanks for asking!

Frank Harwood Proctor
It's a small point but I'm curious where you got the information that Frank's middle name was Harwood. In the absence of evidence to the contrary my guess would have been Harwood also, since it was his father's name and had been passed down for 200 years or more, most recently (AFAIK) to my father. However, some family trees on Ancestry have it listed as Hunt but so far I've been unable to find his middle name in any verifiable public record, i.e census, birth marriage death certificates, draft registration, etc. He died so young he didn't leave a lot of documentation behind and I suspect that when NEHGS transcribed the public records many years ago they substituted an initial for a middle name if they were limited on room.

Thank you for all the grave sites you have documented. Not living in New England any more it would be impossible for me to do cemetery searches without the good work of folks like you.

Hey Ryan, no problem, I added my photo to your memorial for her and deleted the one I created. I then linked husband George and son Otis to your memorial. Jim

RE: 2nd great grandmother
Ryan: Thanks for the update on my 2nd gm. I have been looking since 2011 for the family. I say family because, there were about 12 of my ancestors who passed in about a 10 year period, either from giving birth or disease (TB or Flu)!! So, having said this, if you should come across the following people, I would appreciate you letting me know. Margaret Agnes (Fitzgerald) Hanley b. 26, Apr 1881, d. 10 Nov 1911. Nora Donahue (alt. sp Donaghue) b. Nov 1859, d. 27 Nov 1901. Michael Fitzgerald b. 3 Aug 1851, d. 8 Mar 1911. Edward Fitzgerald b. 1884, d. 27 Nov 1896. David Fitzgerald b. 15 Jan 1887, d. 27 Nov 1896. George F Fitzgerald b. 1890, d. 26 Nov 1896. Fannie Fitzgerald b. 1892, d. 12 Nov 1896. And, yes, between 1875 and 1911 four generations of my ancestors were wiped out quite literally!!! I am blessed to be alive to tell the story!!!

RE: George & Rose Goodwin
Hi Ryan, That was quite a coincidence. Yes, I plan on linking various family members and adding additional relevant information to the different grave sites. Find a Grave has been a very useful genealogical tool along with it's role in honoring all the ancestors of our past.
Many thanks too for your part in this. Jim

RE: George & Rose Goodwin
You nailed it, Ryan. These are the great grandparents of a friend of mine for whom I've doing research.
Rosanna (Rose) Lucier was married to George F Goodwin on 26 Sep 1871.
She died on 27 Mar 1930 in Gardner, MA
He died on 22 Jan 1937 in Gardner, MA
I'm reasonably confident this data is accurate so if you want to adjust accordingly, feel free. Thanks. Jim
