Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is George Wilkinson and I am an avid researcher and historian for the Fourth Michigan Infantry. This was a regiment serving the Union forces in the American Civil War. I maintain a website which provides a great amount of information about the regiment and the men that fought under her flag. I am very interested in collecting actual relics as well as reliable information that relates to the soldiers of the Fourth Michigan Infantry, so please contact me if you have anything that you'd like to share. I can also be of assistance in obtaining military files from the National Archives (for a fee) should you need them for any soldier in this unit.

I would like to thank each and every Find-A-Grave member that have assisted me in re-uniting the men of the Fourth Michigan Infantry together through memorial transfers. My appreciation is also extended to those who have contributed additional information for these memorials resulting in a more accurate tribute to a soldier's life.

Some members have asked why I request the transfer of a memorial rather than suggesting a correction...and that's a very valid question.

If, while managing a soldier's memorial, I am contacted by one of his descendants, not only can I then transfer that memorial to them if they ask, but I can also provide them additional information and resources in order to help them learn more about their ancestor's service in the Civil War. That is one of my primary goals as a Find-A-Grave member...to help other members, historians, genealogists, and most importantly, the descendents of these men, take an interest in the Fourth Michigan Infantry during the Civil War.

Direct descendants and "sincerely interested" members are more than welcome to ask for the transfer of a memorial. I personally believe that "sharing" is the ultimate Find-A-Grave policy, and will always work with those who feel the same.

Please remember, that in reality, we are all "temporary custodians" of these memorials, and "hoarding" them does absolutely nothing to benefit them. Find-A-Graves transfer request policy is a "guideline" not a crutch, so show some compassion to those that ask, while you're still here to answer.

Leave flowers for the soldier who left home for you.

RE: David Taylor of the First Michigan Infantry
Dear Mr. George Wilkinson,
Thank you for the great care you've taken with all the memorials you've created and those of which you've assumed management. Your efforts constitute a beautiful tribute to the endeavors and sacrifice of a bygone generation of american heroes whose memories may have been lost had it not been for you and people like "GulfportBob". Your dedication is admirable. Thank you also for accepting the edit proposal, your military bio and for offering to transfer management of David Taylor's memorial to me. His father, Dennis A. Taylor, is my three times great grandfather, his mother was Harriet Patchen Taylor, his sister was Mary P. Taylor, his brother was Myron R. Taylor and David is my two times great grand uncle. I'm very proud of him and of his service to the Union. On behalf of his parents, his siblings and all those related to him past & present, I would be honored to assume management of his memorial from you. Thanks again for all you do sir.
Yours sincerely and humbly,
Jeff Taylor

RE: Eugene Vaughn
George,
Any leads on Andrew Jackson Kaiser/Kaizer?

I really like the photo you added to Vaughn's memorial. It's perfect!

If I come across any other 4th Michigan infantrymen, I will definitely transfer them to you. I've given you Mosley Ten Eyck and now Eugene Vaughn--both located in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago. Where else would you like me to look for your guys? I can get to SW Michigan on occasion. Talk to you soon.

I am a direct descendant of Henry through his son B.L. Howes who is my great grandfather. I would love to know information about Henry and what his rank and service details are and any info concerning him. I am interested in the history part of his service, too. Anything is appreciated.
