I am doing family research in Sullivan and Orange counties in New York, especially in the Mamakating/Town of Deerpark/Forestburgh areas.
As interested as I am in finding out how far back I can trace my roots, I am more fascinated by how far they branch out, knitting together the small, far-flung hamlets and villages that grew along with the Delaware and Hudson Canal, and later the railroads. I'm continually amazed at what a small world it really was (and is).
