I live in Dutchess County NY, love my country and have a loyal respect and love for our American soldiers. I love history and found this site a wealth of information. |
Most of the Morgan's are from Delaware, The Caldwell's are from and Scotland and Indiana. Pilkingtons are from Kannapolis North Carolina, Smithville North Carolina and England. If you have a connection with my family line, I would love to hear from you.
Revelations 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

What do you mean by non-cemetery burial? Do you actually know what happened with him? Thanks.

|JNicholson-Turbide||Old Cemeteries and those hard to read graves|
Hi there AMMNY,
I see that you get to visit many old cemeteries (those are our favorite!) and wanted to show you an easy way to read those hard to decipher stones.
Take along an LED flashlight and a notepad and pen... and maybe an umbrella too. The higher the power of LED, the better. The umbrella will provide shade, which makes it easier to read on sunny days.
So here's how you do it:
This is the safest method of reading these old graves and I feel the most effective. We use an LED flashlight, the higher the lumens, the better. The flashlight we use has 1700 lumens.
I also use my older 860 lumen light which works just as well.
Shine from left to right, at the edge of the grave, the letters pop right out. We have not had to use foil since we've learned this trick.
When the sun is too bright, we use our umbrella to provide shade, then light it up.
Maybe this will give you a new lease on graving! :) It makes us seek out the older stones, because we all know that chalk is a NO-NO and deteriorates the stone and this is a non-invasive safe method. Enjoy!!

The wonderful photo of Eleanor Roosevelt with her father which you posted on his memorial would look lovely on her page as well in my humble opinion. Just sayin'...
