|Bio and Links|
San Diego has some of the best Find a Grave contributors who are doing an amazing job of documenting our local cemeteries. If you need a grave photo there is no shortage photo volunteers. If you are looking for an obituary, cemetery information or advice we have volunteers happy to help you. |
If you are new to Find a Grave and want to start contributing in the San Diego area please read the FAQs or reach out to someone with your questions.
Please always do a search before creating a new memorial
Links, Corrections and additional information
Please use the edit tab and I will be happy to make corrections, add links and additional information. Do not leave information you want added on this page.
Note: Abstracted lists (such as census, death index, etc.) should be formulated into complete sentences prior to submitting for addition to the bio.
Copy-and-paste census, military and other data is not a "bio". Please don't send these type of bios because they will not be added.
This is Find-a-Grave, we find graves, so please, if the memorial doesn't have a grave photo, request one prior to asking for a transfer.
I'm pretty liberal when it comes to transfers, however too many times I have transferred and nothing is added or changed. So if you want a transfer, please:
1. Post any family photos (if you have them)
2. Provide me with family links and biographical information you wish to add to the memorial.
3. Tell me your exact relationship
I will not make a transfer if you create excessive memorials with unknown burial locations.
Please be a Find a Grave contributor, not just a collector of someone else's work
✔ PLEASE NOTE!!! Do not move your Burial Unknown into the correct cemetery based on the information you found from my memorial & then demand that I delete my duplicate.

|Gayle Broberg||Transfer My Father's Memorial|
Hello Gennaphyr Wilbury,
I recently noticed that you added a memorial for my father (Harold Taylor Christensen - 133822083) before I also added a memorial for him (#152621811). I apologize for not finding your memorial already in Find My Grave, when I began adding memorials for my parents. I wondered if you would mind transferring the management to me, since I will be maintaining and updating the one that I created. Thank you for your help. - Gayle Christensen Broberg
|JT Swisher||RE: Brookover - FamilyTreeDNA.com|
Hi Gen - The Brookover that I have been working with, like most people, balks at spending money on a DNA test. He is in the root of Andrew 1877-1947 - Aseal 1851-1936 - Andrew 1819-1880.
The 5 DNA tests showing on FamilyTreeDNA is an indication that there is no administrator so there is no project. If you have the interest, sign up to be the Brookover Project administrator. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. I have no dog in the hunt - no relation to the Brookovers. The one I am working with went to school with me years ago. He had told me that there were 17 Brookover RS - yes there are 17 Revolution soldiers on a Web site but only one is his.
Without insight as to if our Brookover's are connected, I am flying blind. Please take a look at my Brookover Ancestry.com tree. If you see a connection perhaps I may be able to be of some help. My interest in ancestors began at age 12 on a trip to Georgia with my dad. So I know how hard you have worked over the years. But every now and then someone contacts me with information that I did not have. Without the knowledge that our Brookover's are connected there would be no point in DNA testing. Let me know what you think...email@example.com in SE Pa.
Hello! 114264193 is my family member if I could have them transferred. You noted that the mother is Haley - in the notes. Hallie has been transferred to me and a link to them both has also been submitted. Thanks so much!

You know what I think is going on, FTDNA has five Brookover contributors but has no administrator yet to turn it into a project. I ran into this with another family where FTDNA was showing 9 had been tested of that name but no one had made it into a specific project. Since you have a direct interest in Brookover this would be an opportunity to be the administrator for the project. It is not a hard job - FTDNA does the test results, you see the results, set up the parameters, (names included in the group) and answer any questions about the project. Here's your chance to learn something new!
|JT Swisher||RE: Brookover|
You are close but no cigar yet. Open the FamilyTreeDNA.com - at the top click on projects - on the right there is a place marked "Project Search" - type in Brookover and it will take you to the Brookover Project. There are 5 that have been tested and there is no information about the project - it wants you to order a test to join the project. I certainly would not order a test without knowing something about the format of the project. There has to be a way to get in touch with the administrator. I got sc----- on a Swisher Project where the administrator will not release any information about the results except for exact matches with my husband. Every administrator has the right to run the project however they choose. Most that I am in are very helpful with sharing information. I would call FTDNA and see how you can contact the administrator.
I also know that I saw another Brookover Project with 36 members - in a week's time I have been thousands of places on the Internet. But I will keep my eyes open for that project for you.
Thank you for helping me think about the three Brookover Revolution soldiers mentioned in the write-up that I originally contacted you about. You are coming to the same conclusions that I have. John Brookover was RS - but nothing so far about any of his brothers. When I started with this client he claimed about 17 RS and in 42 family roots of his I have only found two. TY

Thank you for the transfer of Ernest.
Most of all thank you for creating his memorial.

|JT Swisher||RE: Brookover|
You didn't answer my question about the other two Brookover brothers that were RS. They are mentioned in the "write-up" that we are discussing.
Familytreedna.com - projects - Surname: brookover
There are 5 people in the group which you cannot view the information without joining the group.

I was delighted to find the memorial of my 4th cousin twice removed this evening.
Thank you for that contribution of his memorial.
I would be honored to care for the maintenance of Ernest's memorial.

|JT Swisher||Transferring graves -|
You mention "your relationship" with the grave owner. I do genealogy research for pay so I am more than likely not related to the grave owner. I rarely want a transfer - but I am avid about adding maiden names, birth dates and places, and parents or children that do not have grave links - but they are related to the grave owner.
As I see the future, more and more Find A Grave information will combine with sites like Ancestry.com to combine information. I may have heard somewhere that Ancestry owns Find A Grave. Personally, I always feel sad when I go to a listing and there is no information about the person. I believe in my heart that everyone deserves to be connected to their family. Or, for family members to be able to find their loved one. TY.
|JT Swisher||RE: Brookover|
Hi - Yes, there is a Brookover Project on FamilyTreeDNA.com. There are only 5 signed up at this time. I think that I saw another Brookover Project that 36 were signed up. Various DNA companies have their own projects to guarantee the customer loyalty to their company.
My comment about "ALL Brookover's descend from this man" was to clarify that the only way to prove the line is with DNA. I have run into that write-up in many places and I have been unable to figure out who originally did the write-up. The original Brookover arrived in American back in the mid-1700's - many other Brookover lines have come since that time. I realized that my comment probably would not be added - but I was hoping that some clarity could be made. Many people take anything that they read on the Internet as truth.
Since you have been researching the Brookover's for years, have you ever come across the other two brothers that were supposed to have been Revolution soldiers? I have checked various spellings, various states in the area, DAR and Revolution records to no avail for the two brothers. I thought perhaps since Richard Brookover had received 100 acres in Ohio as a military Land Grant - he might have been RS. But I have found no record that he served in the Revolution. What do you think?
Thank you for the help. Keep up the great work! Jeanie in Pa.
