"This is the heritage of our country," "These stones -- they're not high-ranking officials or generals -- these are the enlisted men who fought the battles. These guys didn't write history, they made it, and we're trying to tell their story. –Sam Ricks|
Like a lot of members I started with FindaGrave looking for my ancestors to preserve memories for future generations. I cannot begin to tell you how Thankful I am for all the wonderful people that went out of their way to help me in fulfilling my quest. So I wanted to pay it forward and I found the best way I could do that is to work with veterans and their families. They have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom and as a spouse of a NAVY veteran this is the least I could do. Since then I have been working with a wonderful group of volunteers adding and editing veteran memorials to the National Cemeteries.
Currently I am working on Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery checking and cross checking every name for errors and or duplicates and sending requests for corrections when needed.
Find a Grave guidelines clearly states a memorial with a correct known burial location will always be preferred over an unknown burial location and the final disposition should be determined and updated within 30 days. Based on these guidelines the memorial added to the right cemetery first may stay and the burial unknown will be deleted regardless of the dates.
I have had many contributors asking to have the same memorial transferred to them. We cannot please everyone so I am only adhering to the four generation rule (siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren). As the guidelines state the goal is not to "own" every memorial of those to whom you are related. The ultimate goal should be to have meaningful, accurate memorials that honor those who have passed away, regardless of who created the memorial or who maintains it. A wonderful way to gather all your ancestors together and achieve that goal is by setting up a virtual cemetery.
I would like to give a SINCERE "Thank You" to all the contributors and photographers for all that you have done for me and for FindaGrave. It really means a lot.

I just found my father's memorial entered by you. Thank you for adding it. How can I add more information to it? My mother's info and the five children. Also, my grandfather's info is listed with my dad's sisters, but his name is not on it. So nice of you to think of others.

The memorial is for Mary E Carr and the cemetery is New Sommerset Methodist Church Cemetery. May I ask how you got the info for this person? I have a Mary Esther Carr in my family tree who married a Wonsetler and the death dates match, but she doesn't have her married name listed. She has been really hard to locate and I was hoping that maybe you could shed some insight.
