Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is James and I live in Burlington Kansas. Im originally from California. Ive also lived in Oregon and Vermont, but Kansas is my kind of state. I became an Eagle Scout in 1986 and graduated from high school in 1987 from Lake High in Garden Grove, California. After 21 years I have finally decided that going to college might be a good idea, so I am now taking online courses and majoring in History. I am a staunch republican and patriotic American.

Every time I visit a memorial, historical landmark, museum or battlefield, I get a sense of excitement that is hard to explain. Some people tell me to get a life. I tell people this is my life. Instead of having beer slogans and car posters hanging up in my house, I have family pictures, old and new in frames and sitting all over the house.

While researching my mothers side of the family, I found out that General Custer is related to us as well as Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy and President James Monroe, who was my ggggreat grandmothers nephew.

On my fathers side I am a decendant of William the Conquorer.

Im obsessed with Genealogy and American History. I love old movie classics, but war pictures and movies pertaining to history are my favorites. Ive been into Genealogy every since I was 11 years old. It all started when I used to hear stories told by my Great Grandma Bentley and Grandpa Turner.

Everyone should be remembered and never ever forgotten. It was the ancestors we study today that made us who we are. To forget them is disgraceful.

I really appreciate all the messages left for my family and friends. They are greatly appreciated. If I can be of any help to anyone with their genealogy just let me know. If anybody has any additional information on the memorials I created please let me know and I will add it.

A special thank you to Debra Dawson who,out of her own pocket, sponsored my Grandma and Grandpa Turner's memorial's,also my Uncle Dennis memorial and the tokens she left and the pictures she sent me,they are greatly appreciated.

RE: Dora Doney Elmore
They got married in Colorado on Dec 30, 1920. I found in the Colorado Marriage records. After her first husband died she remarried. John Snyder died in 1924. Look at the picture on his Find A Grave site. This is Him and Her. Probably marriage picture. this was his third marriage.

Go to

This is the marriage record.

RE: Thorpe Dates
You are welcome. I did quite a bit of research on them last year for an article I wrote for the paper.

Allene died May 1933. I need to pull her obit to find out more. If I am not mistaken she was murdered by her husband in California. Do you know that story? If not I will tell you more.

Frank M was born 11-3-1863 and died 4-20-1945.

Are you a relative?

Take care,

Purple heart
James . He did receive it. Combat wounded in Korea. Paratrooper with the 82 nd I was told. Served , I believe,
From '48 to '54. As a matter of fact, I think he declared his date of birth as 1931 when we think it was actually 1932 to enlist in the military early. That is why I was trying to get his military records to see when and where exactly he served. what medals and commendations were awarded.
He never spoke to his family about his service. My mother knew some but not all about it.
I have wondered if there is another avenue for those records. Do you know of any? My daughter has started looking into the Census from 1940 to see if he was listed at a certain age.
Anyway, thanks again for your information.

Purple Heart
I wish I could say we have it. Sadly, we have neither Buds or Kens (Pete) Purple Heart. I think I said before that I have tried
to get my Dads Service Records but they were burned in the fire that so many records were lost. I wish we had all of his Medals as well.
It is a shame that they are lost for us to remember them by.
I hope they turn up someday for you. Regards, Dale.
