If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.|
I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.
I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.
If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.
I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.
Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion.
There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.
Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

My husband is also, a direct descendant of Robert Hicks. So he is related to your spouse, too. That's cool what was there grandfather's name Jim comes from Ernest Copeland and goes up to Robert.

I copied the info in the email to the bio on my phone and for some reason it included the entire email. Is it fixed now with the info you wanted?

I contacted Prairie Home about Solon Dederick. This was the response I got back from them:
4/7/1918 for a burial date is all I can come up with.

I have transferred the memorial for Smith Avery #96819309 over to you to manage. I assume he is a relative of yours. I only make memorials of people that are not related to me so others can discover their departed relatives on this site. I have made the additions that you requested.

Yes, little Alice's stone is almost impossible to read. When I transcribe an old cemetery I get a list if possible. There wasn't one for Mount Pleasant on the internet, but I found one at the Columbia Genealogy Library. Unfortunately, the only Avery listed was Jacob so I did my best for the rest.
The order of the individual stones in the cemetery was Elizabeth Calkins, Jacob Avery, Alice Avery and Mary Ellen Avery.
I have photographed most of the Columbia cemeteries working on the Lasher family. You seem to be doing the same for the Averys so I transferred them to you. I know you will take good care of them. If there are any I missed please request them through the edit key and I'll be happy to transfer.
Happy grave hunting, Jan Reasoner
