Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired Huntsville Alabama Police Officer. I have been a student of local history for many years. My main interests lie in Alabama Civil War Units. One of the saddest things about the Civil War was that so many young men left home and were never heard from again. Their families never knew how or where they died or where they were buried. Thanks to the work of many Findagrave contributors, I have reunited many of these brave men,if only in a virtual cemetery. These cemeteries are a constant work in progress. I welcome any and all info on any of my memorials and am always happy to transfer your kin folk. If you visit the memorial of any of these brave men, please honor them in any way you see fit. Whether or not you believe their cause was just, does not matter. What matters is that men from both sides fought and died protecting the only way of life they had ever known. "Alas! In how many Southern homes aching hearts waited through weary months for news of loved ones that never came until the suspense was replaced by the real certainty that the absent one had helped to swell the unknown dead of the Wheatfield, the Peach Orchard, or the Devil's Den of a Northern land."--J. Howard Wert. Sometimes I come home from work with a sore back or tired feet or maybe even a headache. Then I think of a 16 year old boy lying wounded in a dark field. He's hundreds of miles from home. He's thirsty, hungry and cold. He's crying for his Mama. Or I think of Robert and Sarah Milling, of Dallas County, who lost their five sons to the Confederate cause in the 20th Alabama Infantry. Suddenly, I don't feel so bad afterall. ********* I'm having some problems with my E-Mail and can't reply or send anything out. Please send me a public message through Findagrave if possible so I can respond back in a timely manner.*********

RE: Private Frank D. Hurt
Camp Col. Snodgrass #232 meets at the Stevenson Pool Hall every first Saturday of the month at 6:00. I am now the new adjutant of the camp so you can contact me at 1256 244 5156 or my email if you have any questions. We'd love to have you visit or even join if you're not apart of another camp.

Also, I have another found in Cedar Hill. His name is N.M. Barron. He was in Company K, 2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment. I have no other info on him other than that. He was in the same company as my 4th great grandfather W.G. Stuart.

Private Frank D. Hurt
I found another Confederate veteran in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro that is not in your virtual cemetery. Frank D. Hurt. Private, Company H, 55th Alabama Infantry. His memorial ID is 119820502. Don't let the modern gravestone throw you off. I checked the muster rolls and he was there. He's a stones throw away from some other 55th boys even the Colonel of the regiment John Snodgrass is near him.

RE: CSA soldier info
That information you gave me was very helpful. I found him listed in one of the miscellaneous units, Camp of Instruction, Talladega, Al. I don't know how or when he got to the 22nd, but at least now I know his name is there showing where he joined at.
Thanks for your help,
Sarah

CSA soldier info
Hello,
I just wanted to tell you this is a wonderful thing you are doing here.
If I may ask a question--where did you get all of the names from each unit? I have information on my 3rd great grandfather Miller T Brooks saying that he fought with the 22nd Alabama, under Captain Harry T Toulmin at the Battle of Chickamauga on 20Sept1863. My info shows that he was killed on this day. I looked for him in your list, but he is not there. Do you put info in from other volunteers or only what you verify yourself? As far I as know, his body was never returned home.
Thanks for any info,
Sarah
