I am southern born and bred. Born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Columbus, Georgia. I am an Army brat. I retired in Oct 1998 from the US Army, after 26 years. I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for a few years but returned to the area of my roots in May 2003, to Phenix City, Alabama.|
I have always been interested in history, especially family history. My family lines are Blow, Laird, Driver, Highsaw/Hisaw/Hysaw, Staggs, Johnson, Newman, McNutt, Alvis, Blankenship, Harris, Thrasher, Nesbitt, Elam, Tucker, Nash and on my ex-wife's side Harper, Wache, Schramm, Masseron, Gansberg, Klunder, Appelberg & Loutzenheiser.
I enjoy walking cemeteries, especially old church or community cemeteries, checking the dates on the headstones, trying to imagine what the times were like for them.
Some of my memorials are of my kinfolk, but if I have a memorial that is not directly related or not related to me, I will gladly consider transferring it to a relative.
I am willing to look-up local obituaries and photographing headstones and graves in the local area (within 25 miles). All headstone photos that I post to Find-A-Grave may be used for posting to family trees. All I ask is that you give proper credit for the photo and it is not use for financial gain.
Please use the "Edit" tab to request a memorial transfer or to add updates and/or corrections to the memorials.

Thank you for trying to get this photo, and for going the extra mile to talk with the cemetery staff and the funeral home. I did not know he had been cremated. I appreciate your efforts!

Wow! David, you are awesome! I never expected to get the pictures that soon! Thank you so very much for doing this for me and for their family! I have been working their family history for Elbert's granddaughter, who will be very happy to see these! May she use the photo's on her ancestry.com tree, should she like to do so? Thanks again and have a blessed day!

David - Wow! Over 700 volunteer photos taken. You are a findagrave All-Star. I really appreciate the photos of the Roper & Howell families that you took for me recently. I am working on my cousin's family history and seeing these photos will really make his day. He lives in Columbus and had no idea that his distant relatives were buried right there. Also, thank you for all of your many contributions to findagrave.com. People like you are what make this site a goldmine for amateur genealogists.

Thanks for the transfer but I was just asking you to link son and parents. I will keep them however if you wish and try to maintain them as you would. Thanks for adding them and all the work you do for Find A Grave.
