Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a California girl who grew up in Marin County. Moved to Solano County in 1997. Researching family since the 1970s and as of 2014, have over 105,000 family ties. Two Mayflower Pilgrim ancestors - Richard Warren and Francis Eaton among that number.

Started taking photos of tombstones for Find-A-Grave as a Thanksgiving 2008 project that turned out to be more involved than first envisioned! Started with 120 names, but quickly grew to more than 2,500 in just one cemetery!

Have had a love affair with cats all my life. This is Simba, which means Lion. As a kitten he looked just like Simba from Lion King, hence that is how he got his name. He was a diabetic, had pancretitis, developed kidney infections, was anemic, and he walked on his elbows on his hind legs. Comic relief to see him waddle! Went through a couple of wars with the neighborhood cats, both of which he lost, but he was a survivor anyway. Loveable and loved us to death.

He started the downward cycle while we were on vacation in July 2013. The vet was able to bring him around and kept him going until we got home in August. It is with great sadness to announce that on August 15, 2013 Simba was finally sent off to heaven to be with God and all the other worldly cats and kittens. Maybe he'll find some playmates? He was 18 years old and in human years that would be age 84!

The vet told us when he was much younger that he had feline aids because of the first cat bite he received and not to expect him to live very long - perhaps to age 9. That came to pass and he was fine until the next diagnosis, which was a tumor at the base of the head which was inoperable but it wasn't affecting his lifestyle at the time. Then six years ago the diagnosis of high blood pressure and diabetes. Still healthy and active until the last few years when the muscles in his hind legs broke down but he overcame that disability and continued to walk about as described -- more a waddle than a walk. Next diagnosis -- gluacoma in one of his eyes but it didn't affect his getting about and he never went blind. The last diagnosis was the pancratitis and then kidney infections. Everything wrong but he was a fighter till the end. We loved him very much and he will be sorely missed. The vet who became his doctor at the beginning of his life 18 years ago was there at the end. He said Simba was his favorite and we know his entire staff loved Simba when he was there for office visits or to be boarded while we traveled. He told us that the life expectancy for a cat with diabetes was about 3 years, so Simba lived 3 additional years (or 6 total)with the disease. Again, he was a fighter.

Update: Acquired a new kitty in January 2016 that had been hanging around our yard since the summer (was a neighbors cat's offspring) in the hopes that we could get it friendly enough to come in before the urge to mate hit. We missed the capture and she was pregnant. Took to vet who did an ultrasound and said at least two kittens where showing in her belly. Well, 3-21-16 at about 3:45 p.m. she popped two kittens that looked just like her. We call her Mittens because she is Tuxedo - white muff on chest and 4 white mittens on her feet. The two kitties are both black with the same markings except one has a white mouth with a blaze on the nose and a white belly, but both have the 4 white feet. We call the girl Blackie and the boy Mustache.

RE: Doty Family
Hello Ms.Trapp. It was absolutely a wonderful suprise to hear from you. I see you added hospital record info. to my grandfathers memorial site. Thank you so much. There has for decades been a different tale of how he died. ( family rumor mill.. lol.)None accurate. No,I haven't researched Doty ancestry,as I'm not sure how to go about it,and I am wary of spending $80-$100 for as I am leery of the accuracy of the information provided. I have only been a member of Find A Grave for slightly less than 2 years. My parents are John B. Doty and Marjorie Elsie Vickery Doty. 6-children,Kay,John Jr.(deceased March 1970)myself,Gregory (deceased june 1965 ?)Catherine (deceased May 2009) and Mona. My granfather Vickery was married to Laura Clara "Daisy" Blood, then my grandmother Ervilla Mae Cooper Vickery. I saw Edward Doty's name, but did not recognize any possible connection. I had a very old pix. of my grandfather supposedly in Detroit while he was in good health. Note: My grandfather in the pix. always carried a key chain w/keys on his belt loop, hence my father always did the same & now I do it as well. lol. Always on the right side. Sorry I can't help further, but I will try & research my great grandmother and great grandfather. My grandmother's name was Hazel and re-married after my grandfather died. My dad was 16 @ the time. Her new last name was Irby I believe, She was a very private person who unfortunately was not very sociable, except to her best friend,Ms.Catherine Thomas, who owned Thomas Economy Furniture in Drayton Plains,MI.She was wonderful & loved us kids. I gave the pix. of gramps to my niece in Georgia, but will see if she will e-mail/ a copy & I will post it on my grandpa Doty's memorial page.Btw. I was stationed in Long Beach,CA.aboard the USS Princeton LPH 5,1969 - 1970.( Apollo X recovery ship May 1969) Did a tour of Viet Nam,1970-1971 and finished my Navy tour in Vallejo,CA. 1971-1972. Sorry about Simba, but glad to hear you have given 2 furry friends a loving home. If I can offer anything further, please e-mail me @ I know this is long, but thank you for wonderful bio.information. Enjoy a great year.

RE: Hazel White Bates
Thank you so much for your help and information, this will help me a lot. I have worked on so many of my family members , I can't remember if I had asked if you would be willing to transfer Aunt Hazel's memorial over to me.
Thank you in advance,
Mary Rice

RE: Hazel White Bates
Hello, This I Mary Rice member # 47146526, again. I was wondering if you might have any pictures of Aunt Hazel White Bates that I might be able to see. Or a copy of her obituary. If not I will ask my Aunt Bonnie White Patterson. I 'am working on our Ancestry . And anything that you would be willing share would be appreciated. Not sure if you know any of her side of family on the White side, but you can ask them and they will verify that my Hazel is my Aunt. My mother Mary was married to her Brother, Jackie
Thank You in advance,

Harriet Beardslee
Hi Christie,
The shrub in front of Harriet's grave is still there and even more overgrown. I did my best to pull part of it back and dig out a lot of the dirt and leaves to get a full shot of her name. I'll upload two shots, feel free to delete whichever one you don't want. Hope this helps! That shrub is a beast. :)

Hi Christie,
I was wondering if you could do me a very small favor. I had a VA memorial marker placed for Ann's husband, Andrew Hatfield just below her grave. Could you please take a picture of both markers in one photo for me? They were my former in-laws. I have one of each but not together. It was just placed last month.
I do not have her grave location, sorry.
There is no hurry on this.
Thanks advance for your help.
You can email it to me at
Thank you

RE: Joanna Donkelar
I just received the message you sent through edit. I am offended at your accusations that I just added this person through a list. Look carefully at the memorial. Not only is it researched but a DC has been added (with a different name misspelling- one you used when you created your dupe) and I also added the photo of the gravestone. I drove to this cemetery, 140 miles round trip, every week last summer to take photos of this cemetery section. A little appreciation would be nice.

My concern is that if I change the spelling from the stone, someone else will come along and create a dupe. I plan to contact Find a Grave and run this by them. Unfortunately, they are having problems with the admin email system and we have been asked to hold off on emails for a bit. (See the notice on the forums.)

So, a little space please. Judi

I realize this is a misspelling but Find a Grave requires us to use the spelling on the stone. I noted the correct spelling in the bio.

RE: May Dunlap
I do know what is on my Aunt's memorial. I wanted it because she is my Aunt. Don't worry about it, I am not. I feel as if I bothered you or annoyed you. It will not happen again.

RE: Your bio
Actually, we used to always get notice. Perhaps that has changed.

Done. I declined the two edits but manually linked them to their parents.
