Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an avid history fan and Civil War Historian of sorts. I primarily do research for a book i'm currently writing that will pay tribute to men who fought on both sides. If you would like to contact me about the Civil War please feel free to do so at the email address below. Thank you very much to anyone who leaves flowers on my family members pages. Have a wonderful day.***As a note, when doing research I leave flowers. If I have left a flower for your loved one its out of respect because I looked at their memorial. I usually don't have additional information.

*****Just as another side note, If you come across a Confederate Veteran, don't disrespect them by leaving an American Flag. They didn't fight for it. Thanks!******

***Also as another side note. Please don't send me links for soldiers to add to my research. I will get to them all in due time. Thanks.***

You're very welcome, Anne! It was my pleasure to take the photos. Time ran short before I was able to find all the requests, but I will try again when I get back to Acadia Parish. Sorry about your hip and hope you get better soon!

RE: Phillip Woolsey Hudson
Will do Anne. The letter was re-printed in the then named Conecticut Courant newspaper in Hartford, which the Hudson family owned and published from around 1790 through around 1860 and I found it through a Google search. It's a letter to his father and is real interesting as he talks about the hardships and shortages in boot camp.

Memorial Transfer Please
Thanks so much for all the work you have done. "Capt. Phillip Woolsey Hudson" is my great grandfather and I would like to add some additional information to his memorial. I don't have a lot about his Civil War service other than very basic information like where he served. I do have a copy of a letter he wrote to his father from boot camp with the Union Army that's pretty interesting that I'd like to add. I was wondering if you could transfer his memorial to me.

John Bland at Hopewell
This person is not at this cemetery in Blount Co AL. There is apparently a Hopewell cemetery in Cullman Co. AL... which is right next to Blount Co. There is a memorial for him at that cemetery with pictures already posted. His memorial # for the correct one is 30693525. Hope this helps you. I will close out your picture request due to this information.

RE: George Simmons
I don't believe that any of those men is the George in Oak Hill Cemetery. But, I have another question that you might know the answer to. Somewhere in Texas is a college or university that has records which were kept by a doctor. Apparently, field doctors were supposed to send names, dates and causes of sickness/death to him. After the war, that doctor ended up in Texas, and there the records remain. Do you know of the place?

George Simmons
I came across the obit listing from the Prattville Progress of George Simmons, who died on the Wednesday before March 2, 1906 (I figured out that it would have been on Feb. 28 of that year). How would I find out if he served in the Civil War? His age was listed as 63 in the 1900 census, and I remember seeing that he had dates on his cemetery slab. The obit said that the family came from Butler Co. AL. No relatives were listed by name. The obit mentioned that he was connected to the local paper, so I wonder if in today's terminology, he might have been a war correspondent?

Andrew J. Simmons
Just thought you might get a chuckle out of this! I took the photo of A.J. and Andrew J. Simmons (A.J. is the footstone, Andrew is the headstone). He was buried by George Simmons. Since there were no dates, I tried to find him on a census. On the 1900 census, Andrew is listed as the brother of George, George being 63, while Andrew is 56 (if my math is right, he would be born about 1854). How young were they when in the military? Even stranger, we find that Andrew is a mail carrier, but he can't read or write! Thank goodness he can speak English!

RE: Betty Smith
Thank you, Anne, I appreciate the fast action :)
You and all the others do a terrific service. I think I would like doing this, but after wandering around the nearest cemetery, I don't know how you all find ANY one! lol
