|Teresa Woo||more on Mary Adams|
I should mention that Mary Curley Adams is buried in the Suquamish Cemetery.
|Teresa Woo||Mary Curley Adams|
Mary Adams may be a been sister to my Great-Great-Grandmother also named Mary but died young in 1885 in China at age 32. She was known as Mary Carey and married Chun Ching Hock, a wealthy Chinese merchant who is known as the first Asian Seattle resident. He became extremely wealthy and well-known as a Seattle pioneer who opened his first business on Seattle's Mill Street in 1869. We know that Mary Carey had a brother named John Curley who died in a railroad accident in 1899. He was a well-known figure in the Seattle Pioneer Square area and told the locals that his sister married Chun aka Wa Chong. A news article about his death states that Wa Chong upon hearing of his brother-in-law's death paid to have him transferred from Potter's Field (poor man's cemetery) to Lakeview Cemetery. We have funeral records of this but haven't been able to find it physically. So it is curious to find that Mary Adams is Mary Curley Adams! Did you find this information from her death certificate? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!! Best regards, Teresa
|William Martin||RE: Martin Family|
Your William Martin is a brother to my great great grandfather, Moses Stinson Martin. William was a lawyer and a judge. He and several other members of the Martin family are buried in Gilgal cemetery in Heltonville, IN. I have visited their graves. William's grave is well marked as is his wife's grave. The markers on some of the other graves are either difficult to read or missing. My great great grandfather, Moses Stinson Martin's grave has no visible marker but his wife, Catherine Helton Martin's grave is visibly marked. Catherine's parents were Adam Helton and Poly Starnes Helton. Adam's family were the founders of Heltonville. His grave is well marked and had a unique cast iron cover over it. I would take that to mean that he was a rather prominent person in Heltonville. I know that Burrell and Luraina Raney Martin are buried somewhere in Surry County, N.C but have been unable to find their graves. I do not know the date of Luraina's death but according to my files, Burrell died in 1826. Do you know where they are buried? I am not yet positive but I think Burrell's father was also a William Martin whose wife's name was Liddia. I have not yet made a positive connection there yet.
Your William Martin is well documented in the DAR records. I remember seeing it and reading where he had been a lawyer and a judge but since that was not my direct line, I did not read extensively. I located one of my direct ancestors in the DAR records and followed that line to see who my Rev War ancestor was. It turns out that my Rev War ancestor was Christian Brannaman He and others of my direct family are buried in Liberty Cemetery in Jackson County, IN not far from Heltonville.
That is about all I have on our common Martin line. I wish I had more information. If you know anything more than I have, please share it with me. Especially anything on the location of Burrelland and Luraina's grave location or the names of either of their parents.
Your distant cousin, Bill Martin

Don't know how accurate it is but I have his parents as William Wenzel Kahut and Helena Marr. Don't know where I found dates for her but I have her born 1817 and died February 9, 1877 in Gervais.
I am related to Wenceslaus wife. Appolonia is my grand aunt.
