My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. but now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered after they physically leave us. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved ones grave and not even have to leave the house.

Graveyards
When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.
I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.
We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.
Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

I am just getting started on tracing Oates family history. I am related to a son of John; Cary Leonard Oates. I am finding this name in many variations. Have you already completed a family tree for John O Oates? If so, do you have it posted somewhere for public viewing that I may check it out?
