Atlanta, Georgia native saluting the contributions of the influential, powerful and above all, inspiring men and women (particularly African-Americans) whose exemplary achievements have touched so many lives and in many cases heretofore have gone unnoticed. African-Americans all along have been contributing to the richness of America. Many of these known and unknown individuals broke barriers in the political, educational and entertainment arenas, as well as built up their communities, and achieved beyond what others deemed impossible. Being a contributor to Find A Grave (a very informative website) enables me and others to salute those who have directly and or indirectly in some way impacted myself and others lives. Many African-American's who were bound or free have passed on unhonored and unsung, who yet were worthy of the olive crown for their constancy, their courage and their firm belief in the ultimate triumph of justice. All saluted, from the famous to the obscure, deserve our gratitude, for their lives clearly demonstrate in some way-through perseverance, fortitude and hard work that people can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to fulfill their dreams and share their gifts with the world. My hope is that more people will become more aware of the contributions that many of these individuals have made.

Hi :::wavin::: Everyone documenting Bio's on Aretha's family fails to mention Aretha's brother Cecil Franklin.Cecil Franklin presided as Aretha's manager, a position he kept until his death from lung cancer on December 26, 1989 That needs correction .. I think, don't you? :-)
Also Aretha's father C. L. Franklin had more children: Vaughn (born December 24, 1934) and elder daughter Carl Kelley (née Jennings; born 1940) are still alive. Kelley is C. L. Franklin's daughter by Mildred Jennings, a then 12-year-old congregant of New Salem Baptist Church in Memphis, where C. L. was pastor.[33]

I just wanted to thank you for your memorial to my father Lt. John H. Clifton, Jr. that you placed on 7/4/2008. I'm so sorry that I didn't thank you earlier.
I was putting up some photos of him from a new scanner I just got, and saw your lovely tribute just recently. I couldn't put his picture up before since I didn't have the means to do so then.

Hi Curtis,
I am very interested to know if you are a relative of Dr. Susan Smith McKinney (Steward). I am an administrator at Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (594 Albany Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11203). We are a 320 bed facility and are part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (the municipal hospital system). We opened in December 1997.
