With the holidays it seems are coming many more requests so more explanation seems necessary as some have ignored the very simple 2 lines I had before (the next 2 lines.) Those weren't outrageous to ask: It should be done with any site anyone joins. Especially one which asks collaboration between members.|
Please read the FAQ.
Please read the Community Rules.
Please, do not send me changes without telling me where they came from. Use the blank box in the edit tab to tell me your source. I cannot always verify. An unsourced tree or a census in and of itself are not solid sources. Please understand that the same name(s) do NOT mean it is the same person. It can take years to verify one piece of information. Sometimes researching an entire line is necessary and this site does not give that type of time. We have 20 days before it's auto accepted. That's not enough time to research even one person, and I get many more requests than that.
It also makes no sense for me to spend hours, days, or more when some things were never online to begin with.
If genealogy were as easy as click, 123, verified, it wouldn't be a billion dollar industry. Real research takes much longer than that, and again, we are not given that time. So let me start where you stopped rather than at zero, please.
Please: Send me what you have (sources/proofs mentioned/how you knew), and with that as a starting point, I can verify and possibly even find and add more than you had even requested. I'd rather the page stand as it is than add unverified material. And by the way that is a basic foundation of genealogical research: PROOF. I am tired of receiving either sarcastic replies or no reply in answer to my queries. So things that I cannot verify in a reasonable amount of time will now be declined.
PLEASE read the FAQ for proper procedure in sending suggestions. PLEASE read community rules especially Rule H. There's no excuse for violating either one especially repeatedly.
Delegation and collaboration are NOT the same things at all. They are opposites. While many here do just accept all incoming, we're not supposed to and that's not genealogy at all. We have all been wrong. All. Delegation is dropping off a stack of work and saying "do this." (That's what people do when they send edits without any explanation or source to look at.) Collaboration is giving all the information you have up front; answering questions in a civil manner; and accepting the other person might (as it says in the FAQ) disagree or have conflicting information.
Collaboration is passing the baton or letting me continue from where you stopped in your research. That means catching me up to speed. Delegation is literally just insisting someone do as you wish. I have delegated and paid to have research done; and it has taken months at times for one name, by a professional called upon by those genealogy shows. So stop and think if dumping an entire lineage on me to prove in 20 days makes sense, even if "everyone else does it."
That said: Some of you understand what real collaboration is. Those people are a joy to work with. Thank you.
