My grateful thanks to Findagrave for providing a place to preserve our cemetery headstone data. Thank you to all the wonderful individuals who contribute not only their time and energy but expense in locating and transcribing cemetery data. Here we can help preserve the memories and images of our family and friends, and we help strangers to us but not to those that find their family and friends among these web pages.
I encourage corrections and/or suggestions for updates. Any edit requests may take up to a month to make but most are completed quicker.
Most memorials I add are works in progress and I am always looking for links and additional information about them. Let's never forget our family and friends. Please leave flower tokens so I can tell that they have been visited.
Please consider setting up a virtual cemetery for your family members. Any memorial can be entered into this virtual cemetery so you can have all your family together. Having someone in your family genealogy is not grounds for a memorial transfer. With thousands of contributors, there are many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.
Currently live in Walker County Georgia. This web site has helped me find many places I have been looking for. Thanks Find-a-Grave.
Researching Bishop's family from Magee / Mendenhall, Simpson County, Mississippi and Jones' family from Ellisville, Mississippi.
My Bishop family line is me, Walter R, T. Melvin, T. Webster, T. Spencer, Josiah, and Ezekiel Bishop. The "T" stands for Tillmon, Tilman, Tillman, etc.
My Jones family line is me, Margaret Ella, James Robert (Jim), and William Calvin Jones.
I am also interested in the Bishop line female spouse surnames of Sellers, Harvey, Sullivan, Warren, and Street.
I am also interested in the Jones line female spouse surnames of Carney and Stephens.
My husband family names include Craig, Howard, and Morris.

Sorry it took so long. My husband passed away in June, and I have been inundated with doing his part in running a household in addition to my own responsibilities. To recap...I was looking for any newspaper articles referring to the finding of this soldier. Thanks in advance.

Hi Myrtis, sorry for the delay, been fighting a little flooding in Baton Rouge, but survived high and dry.
Multiple other family trees on Ancestry indicate her as Olive, Olive Ova, Olive Oba. She is listed on the 1910 census as Oba. Many of those other trees are of the Thaxton, Rogers, Duckworth family lines which had a lot of related marriages over the years. I am a descendant of Rogers/Speed and Thaxton/Idom family lines and have found in the past most of the other Rogers trees are pretty accurate.
For that reason, I suggested the name change due to the fact that most searchers would look under Olive rather than Ova/Oba/Obie. No other censuses are hinted on Ancestry for her, thus no other confirmation.
Regards, Ron Idom

Would you happen to have a copy of any newspaper coverage? I'm sure it would have been newsworthy. Or, at least the dates of any articles? I was told he was found in the 70s when a home was installing a pool, but maybe there was another...
