Your George Shelton
Good to know we are cousins after all. I remember working on this line for another person a few years ago, was not an easy lineage to track! I was only able to add a few small details. It was someone else who discovered the lineage back to one of the Ralphs. Great seeing them memorialized here on findagrave!

Yes, that is the confusing thing. Thomas says that all 7 sons served in the war. Names the first five and their service is documented by military records, easily found. Even if George was able to lie about his age, that's still stretching it a bit. And outside of that, I've no idea where he lived; only that he did not come back home to VA. I've researched all the George Sheltons born within a 5 yr period of his year of birth and was able to eliminate some. Thank you for having a look. I appreciate your time.

Southern Claims of Thomas Shelton
Perhaps I misunderstood what Thomas is saying in his claims document when he discussed his sons.

from 1860
First two sons went into confed. both killed in action. Charles and William (already married separate household) went in as Confed. captured became galvanized Yankees and served out west.

Peter, Samuel and George. One went to TN to enlist, one hid in the woods was conscripted, one was already in MO visiting relatives and went in there as a Confed.

Thomas Shelton 47
Elizabeth D Shelton 46
Josiah A Shelton 24
James S Shelton 21

Charles M Shelton 18

Peter T Shelton 15
Lucinda F Shelton 13

Thank you much !

No, and he was quite young to have participated. Aside from 1860 census, where he was with parents in Patrick Co Va, we only learned about he and a brother who went into the war in two other states...due to the Southern Claims his father made after the war, as his farm was completely devastated by one Confederate leader...See Thomas was against the secession and two of his sons went in as Union. Two other went in as Confed. Then one hid in the woods and was transported to Tn...the part that was decelared a free state...and then George W, the youngest who was visiting relatives in Missouri. only saw his name once in census...and hope the census taker was accurate with his middle initial being W.

Would be guessing which relatives..none I know of from his Sheltons lines in MO or his mother's line of Allen. George's brother, Charles married a Napier woman whose family removed to Missouri circa 1848 and then came back to VA due to the violence of the Mormon War....
Found a couple of George Sheltons who died in MO and were from VA...and cemetery records for George Sheltons but have already been proven to be of other families due to their wives records.

My George was shown as being 6 yrs of age in 1860 census...so it's hard to believe he could have participated.

Sheltons in MO
I saw you added some information to this man's memorial, George W Shelton. 27470861

Continuing to search for my ggranduncle, George W Shelton born same time frame 1856 but in Virginia. His father, Thomas wrote that his youngest son was visiting relatives in Missouri when the Civil War began and that George entered the war as a confederate in MO. Have not found him in MO archives or War records. Do you remember coming across my George W Shelton in your research?

Thank you

Thank you. Here are some directions to get you started in changing the cemetery of a memorial.

1. Open the memorial you want to move.
2. Next to "Burial" on the memorial, you will find an [edit] in blue that is a link. Clink on this link.
3. A pop-up window with 3 choices will appear. Make sure there is a blue dot in front of the first choice "cemetery burial" and click on the "continue" below the choices.
4. In another pop-up window, enter the new cemetery name and state and county, then search. The search returns should allow you to select the correct cemetery and then move the memorial.

Good Luck.
