|I have long, long connections with Wilkes County, NC. I grew up in upper Virginia, the D.C. area to be exact, and would visit here from time to time with my dad, who was born in Wilkes County. In 1967, we moved to CA and I married in 1970 and moved to Oregon where I lived until 2000. At that time, I moved back to CA to help with my parents. Each year, we would visit during late September/early October for family reunions and about two years ago, daddy and mother were getting tired of things in CA in the Bay Area and started thinking about moving. We looked at property in Wilkes County and last September found the home we now live in. We moved from CA to "home" and the moving van pulled up on Dec. 26 of 2007 and in we moved! We are glad to be home among family and friends and while I have never lived here before, it feels like home since my roots go back to the 1770's here and I feel like I know all there is to know about Wilkes (which, I'm sure, is not true!) But, here I am and since I am caregiver for my 90-year old dad and 85-year old mother, (who has since passed away on June 11 2009), I don't work and have some free time on my hands. I am going to attempt to photograph Wilkes County cemeteries over time and since findagrave was so helpful to me, I am happy to be able to add to the lists. I am willing to help with questions and answers about Wilkes cemeteries and history, but cannot guarantee I will do it in "your time". lol I love this website and appreciate all the great contributors.|

|M. Shumate||Transfer please|
Hello, Would you kindly transfer Nelson Rho(a)des and Amanda Jennings (Rho(a)des to me as they are grandparents. Buried at Baptist Home Church in North Wilkesboro. Name should be Rhodes with no A, as per the marker.If you could make that correction for any parts as the originator that I will be unable to modify in maintaining. Blessings and thanks.
|kathy kiser||John David Kilby|
I have a note from the N. Wilkesboro Library stating John is buried on private land in a family cemetery by the name of his father Thomas Linville Kilby. State Road 1544 Kilby Brand Rd. a private drive leads up to a hill where Evelyn Clements house is. Along with his 1,2nd wife. And Thomas, and others. John's my husbands grandfather on his mothers side. The Cemetery if adjacent to the east side of her yard. Mulberry township. Not at the Primitive church...I would love to have pictures if anyone is able to get permission to go there. (McNeil Cemetery listings)

Thanks for your response. I think your info is correct but I have also found the following memorial that is attached to Jacob Sparks Memorial # 127865470, and can not seem to contact the owner of this memorial for Millie W. Billings.

Your memorial shows Rachel Baptist Church cemetery for Millie Billings Sparks. Another memorial by a different person shows a memorial with a different burial location # 127865480. As she is my 2nd great grandmother, I would like to know which is correct.
Thanks for all you do.
|Jeri Dearing||RE: 98229717 James Lloyd Satterwhite|
Thank you so much for the reply and for listing her name but I would ask that you not say they are married but either leave it as presumed married or possibly married until we can find some kind of citation and proof standard. Let's do it the proper way. I too have seen it said that he was married to a Nancy Pearson. It's on Martha Ann Eller's death certificate but let's search just a bit longer if it's ok? Thank you.

I'm trying to get a little more info on the James Lloyd Satterwhite if you have it. The first thing that is a bit off is the headstone which states he died in 1913 but yet the obit in The Chronicle newspaper states he died the 8th of June 1911. I wonder when the head stone was actually put there and by who. Another newspaper, The Union Republican states the same date and also states he's buried in the cemetery at Mt. Carmel. I've been recently helping someone work on this family and James comes from my Satterwhite family in Granville County along with his father Nathan. One of his daughters, Martha Satterwhite has on her death certificate her parents were James Satterwhite and Nancy Pearson. I too have not been able to find a marriage for him to anyone but that isn't that uncommon. This is also the first time we have seen his middle name! Your write up talks about the woman he is buried next to, is that Diannah who was married to Barton Pearson? I wasn't feeling like that was the one but I have all of the census records now for all of the years for the Pearsons, Ellers, Walkers, Laws and will try to put the puzzle together! I know you have a lot on your plate from what I see posted so when ever you could possibly check if you have some proof positive it would be great. Thank you so much, Jeri
