RE: William Francis Neely
Gene, Census day for the 1860 Census was June 1, 1860! (Question asked was where were you living on June 1, 1860.) Did you find the parents of the person who was born April 22, 1860, on the census?

William Francis Neely
"If William Francis was born Apr 22, 1860 (death certificate). Why is he not in 1860 census taken on June 22, 1860?"

I think I can answer your question. I worked for the census bureau on the 2010 Census. Census has always been April 1; so when census taker came to a home to take a 'count', his question was "Who was living at this location on April 1 1860." So if you were born on April 22, 1860, you were not added to the 1860 census.

I was wondering why you spelled Wesley's name as Dillon. It's Obviously spelled correctly on his grave stone. Wilda

RE: Shirley Family
I am glad to help! That was the mission of my mother, and I am carrying it out as far as I can! I just have to laugh because as a child/teenager, I thought she was wasting her time and didn't see the value in it.I now know otherwise, I help people and people help me. Since I joined Find A Grave, we have found so much more information than what my mom had. We've also come across mistakes and corrected them. Now if we can just get more DNA from people, especially the English branches.

Thanks for you opinion. I posted pictures to both of your memorials for Blanche and Edward. I find it always touching to humanize the person with pictures and bios, instead of just a headstone.

Unfortunately, we do not share the same view. I feel that Findagrave is the best source to "fill in the "gaps". It also brings others that are related, to continue to fill in the lines. It also helps those who ARE looking at it as a genealogy source. Let's face it, grave sites usually don't lie, though even they CAN have wrong info on them. Regardless what the original intentions of Findagrave, it HAS evolved into something else. Didn't buy it? There is WRONG information posted on Ancestry, because any ole person can add to it. Mistakes are OFTEN made. That's why following up our information with finding birth & death certificates, marriages licenses and obituaries, like with most genealogist, is important. Yes, I do use family search as well as other internet tools. As far as the Shirley Association, that was my mothers creation. As far as the lost or destroyed body with no cemetery memorials. I am working on those, and is the more reason to keep them up because other relatives may clue me in to where they are buried. Not everyone is buried in a cemetery, that's why there is an option for lost or destroyed. They are lost to me and I am looking for them!

RE: Shirley Family
Not sure how we are directly related. My edit came from a few days of going through MANY Shirley researches. My sister and I inherited 30+ years of genealogy research from our mother. She had an association with over 300 members with the Shirley name. To honor her, my sis and I are trying to go through her boxes, and put up as much information we can give. We know if we just throw it away, it could be lost(information)forever. And besides, that was my mom's life work. We are checking internet researching census, birth, death certificates, as well as obituaries, to try to make sure of accuracy. Our line is John & Charity Shirley, his son George,...John Servis,..Silas,... and so on.

RE: Frank Conklin
"SR" would be a perfect description for Frank. His first child was only 2 months old when he died and his wife immediately moved back to her folks in Michigan. Again, many thanks for the obit and death date.
