I reside in New York State. My husband has been helping me with the genealogy of our Families. We started looking for lost relatives of my Mother and Father's family and by accident came across 'Find A Grave'. It is such a wonderful web site. Everyone is so helpful. The 'Find A Gravers' are incredible for creating the Memorials and taking pictures of the final resting places of our relatives and friends. Otherwise, we would not know where some relatives or friends are buried. Just think--soon all the cemeteries will be documented!!!|
One thing we learned is there is a lot of information out there on the Web. Finding the information is the easy part. The hard part is researching the information and deciding what is the right family information. This is very time consuming.
Even more amazing I found that my sister-in-law, Scotdeerie, is a volunteer for FAG at Oakwood, St. Joseph's, Holy Trinity and Gate of Heaven (Niagara Falls, NY and Lewiston, NY).
I started a virtual cemetery for our siblings and relatives who live out of town or not in the immediate area as well as others who cannot drive or are unable to travel. This way everyone may visit, pray and remember their loved ones. This will be especially nice during the long winters in New York. No one will have to wait until the summer to visit their loved ones. I also wanted to help preserve our Family's heritage in some way for the younger family members.
When we visit relatives in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, I will take pictures of the grave stones in the area.
I love visiting Find A Grave's online stroll through the cemetery. The peoples stories are amazing--you laugh--you cry. I especially like to read about the older generations. I love their pictures and reading about their life. If you haven't visited the 'online stroll', please do so when you have time. It is very fascinating.
THANK YOU to everyone who has left flowers and tributes at my Memorials. They are greatly appreciated.

Thank you, glad I could help out.

Hi Flo, I'm further south, central Illinois, near Peoria. I'm working cemeteries in the north side of Peoria County. Chicago / Cook County is huge! Cook County records are readily available for some years by logging into http://cookcountygenealogy.com/SignIn.aspx
although most of their records are also available through ancestry dot com. Familysearch dot org is another good free site. Not sure if I can add much else, other than good old sweat equity searching online. Send me a private email if you need something else. Best to you.

your aunt Francis looks like an amazing woman. I had a great aunt that was like her. She lived with her Dad until he passed away. One time when she was in her 30's she sat on a mans lap. She thought she was going to hell for that..lol Again, love the pic and story of your aunt.

I'm a member of One Foot In The Grave and saw your question about Catherine Golba of Cook County, Illinois. Chicago is in Cook County and on the 1940 census I find 2 Catherine Golbas both born in Poland in about 1870 and 1890. There is also a Katherine Golba born in Poland about 1900. One of them had a husband named George Golba born about 1888 in Poland and died in Chicago in 1935.
While Chicago is not in One Foot In The Grave's area usually, if any of this looks like it may be what you are looking for, let me know and I'd be glad to look into it a little more.
