Bio

I am a retired physician raised in Saskatoon SK where I currently live after spending most of my working years in eastern Canada. While I am very proud to be Canadian, I am also very attached to my Scottish roots. My father, b. 1916, was the son of first generation immigrants from Aberdeenshire. My mother's Canadian roots were much deeper as both her grandmothers were born in what is now Ontario. Her one grandmother, born in 1837, had roots in Perthshire, while the origins of her other grandmother lay in the Scottish Borders. I devote many hours most weeks to family history research. Several of my mother's paternal ancestors were married to persons of First Nations origin, so I have had a longstanding interest in Metis history and genealogy. I have been intrigued to discover that members of many prominent Metis families in central Saskatchewan are my distant cousins, through their descent from a Scottish fur trader, James McMillan.
