Bio and Links
I have been doing genealogy for over 30 years, my main interests are my ancestors in the Shaffer, LeBroke, McIntosh, Rister, Wadsworth, Cecil, Reeves lines. I got most of my material from the LDS Church films and many a trip to the DAR Library in Washington DC. I have visited many cemeteries although I have found many mistakes in their inscriptions. I welcome any mistakes that you find and gladly correct them.Happy Hunting!

descendants of Jacob Shaffer b. 1728
Hello dear Carol,

First I want to thank you for posting the primary source material on Johann Jacob Shaffer/Shaver b. 30 Dec. 1728 in "Darmstetterland", Hessen, GER, d. 8 May 1815 on F-A-G. From that,I was able to discover other sources including the will of Jacob b. 1728 and various documents from Berks Co. records concerning his two wives, Catherine Delaplanck (d. 1761-67 Berks Co PA)and #2 Otilla Schmidt (1744-1831).

You appear to be very knowledgeable about the spouses and descendants of Jacob Shaffer b. 1728. I'm hoping you can help me solve a mystery. My gggg-grandfather was Edward Smith (b. 1774 VA, probably Frederick Co, d. 22 Aug 1859 Wayne Twp., Muskingum Co OH). The early VA marriage records list 2 marriages between Smiths and Shavers. Edward Smith b. 1774 m. Jane Shaver (b. 30 Apr 1780 VA, d. 30 Oct 1861 Wayne Twp, Muskingum Co)in Winchester, Frederick Co. VA on 26 Nov. 1801. Martin Smith (b. ca. 1768-70 VA, d. 1811 Frederick Co. VA) whom we suspect was Edward's brother, m. Lydia "Liddy" Shaver (b. 1773 VA, d. 17 July 1863 Defiance Co. OH) in Frederick Co. VA on 27 Sep 1791. It's likely that brothers married sisters (their children have many names in common), but I haven't been able to document that.

I am trying to determine who the father of Jane (and Lydia?) Shaver was. Some charts give him as a Jacob Shaver, but I have no firm evidence for that. Do you have a list of the children of Jacob Shaver b. 1750, eldest son of Jacob Shaver b. 1728 and Catherine Delaplanck? Do Jane Shaver and/or Lydia Shaver occur anywhere on your Shaver charts in the period 1770-1790? Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards, Karen Taylor

Peter Bird (1764 - 1830)
Peter Bird was not part of the Byrd family at Craney Island. I have information about both families if anyone is interested.

Mike Shaffer
Hi Carol
My name is Michael Shaffer from Bristol, Tennessee . I was looking at Michael D. Shaffer 's pictures that you had put on here. I was named after Micheal D. as he was my Great Great Grandfather. I was wondering if there was any way I could get copies of those pictures, as it has been very hard for me to find a lot of information for him. My e-mail is I would love to talk with you.

Rosannah Friend
Carol, I'm sorry about the errors when I made the posting for Rosannah. Is her birth in Washington Co. still good? And she did die in 1861 rather than 1860 as the tombstone says? I know there are often wrong dates on the stones, but I like to make sure. Thanks.
