I have been a member on Find-a-Grave for over 12years now. This all started with doing my family tree. My how time go by so fast. Yet we will never forget our loved ones.
I do enjoy photography.. I will gladly take photos of others loved ones final resting place. One thing I request is that a location is provided. ie: plot, lot #, section. Many Catholic cemeteries now are either charging for information or they outright refuse to give it. A few are trying to prevent picture taking.

Restrictive Cemeteries
"...One thing I request is that a location is provided. ie: plot, lot #, section. Many Catholic cemeteries now are either charging for information or they outright refuse to give it. A few are trying to prevent picture taking."

I just happened to be browsing Find A Grave—I think it was a floral tribute you'd posted on Mary's memorial that brought me here—and read the above from your bio.

It seems like in recent years we hear more and more about these "restricted" cemeteries that are actively working to try and keep visitors' from having access to the gravesites, either by charging a fee to look up information, restricting information to "family members only"; or expressly prohibiting photographs from being taken. I think it's an outright shame, and so discouraging to those trying to do genealogical research; or merely just attempting to pay their respects to a deceased family member or friend.

While I am not Catholic, I think it's doubly wrong for any church-affiliated cemetery or burial site (of whatever denomination) to engage in this type of profiteering. From my previous observation, it is often "Dignity"-affiliated cemeteries that adopt these restrictive policies. I also don't see how a gravestone can be considered to be "copyrighted" to where it is used as grounds to prohibit someone from even taking a photo; as it is out in the open where technically anyone can view it.... Do you know of any actual laws (local, state or federal)—as opposed to cemetery policies— restricting (or allowing cemeteries to legally restrict) the rights of public access and to take photos of gravesites and posting online? Perhaps if someone were to actually incorporate the design into the making of another stone (and gain profit off of selling it to a third party), that would be understandable. But we live in a very litigious society, especially nowadays in the age of online information; and it seems that there are those who try to "monetize" any and every possible thing in existence that could potentially be a source of income, no matter how intangible.

Sorry about the length of the above "rant". :) It's just that I've been thinking about these issues off and on for a long time now; and reading that section of your member profile just brought it to the surface. Hope you had a good Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you for honoring one of my heroes, Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko, today. He doesn't get very many flowers.

Benjamin Chmiel
There is no marker on his grave. I will post a photo of where the marker would be. I can tell you from the cemetery index that the other Chmiel's there are Kenneth P. died 2010 and Mary Catherine died 2007. I am unsure of any other surnames buried in that plot as the index only lets you do a name search. If you would like the link to the index, please send me an email at Happy Hunting!

Zawadsky in St Peter and Paul cemetery
Hi Ron

I just posted photos for James Zawadsky, Olga and James Jr from Saint Peter and Paul cemetery. Also, in this plot are the following Kowzun graves: Gregory 1884 -1944 his wife Evdokia 1888 - 1049; Gregory H. Kowzun 1913 - 1980. There is another grave but I am unable to translate the name. In another section of the cemetery are the following Zawadskys:
Michael Jan 28, 1886 - Aug 12., 1967 with his wife Barbara Jan. 24, 1885 - Jan. 13, 1940; Nancy (Senko) Zawadsky 1917 - 2011 and her husband Paul M. Zawadsky Sr., 1912 - 2000; Paul Michael Jr. 1946 - 2000 and a babies of James Zawadsky 1942 and Judy Zawadsky 1942.

I'm not sure if you want to create the memorials and I'll post pictures or I can do both.

Let me know.
