Do It Now
I expect to pass through this world
but once.
Any good thing, therefore, that I can do
or any kindness that I can show
to any fellow human being
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
– Stephen Grellet
1773–1855, Quaker missionary

Farrar Family in Vermont
Becky,

Thank you for your messages.

I arrived at the Farrar family via a request from someone in Wales who is a member of the Ellis family.

I have no further access to information on the Farrar family, other than what is on line. I live in Los Angeles.

I am preparing to travel to Vermont in June and will photograph all the gravestones then, so please don't request photographs. I'd prefer to have my own photos on these memorials because I don't want illegible gray blobs, the result of careless phone-tography, which is becoming more frequent.

There are two memorials for Bertha M. (Farrar) Ellis because she is listed with her sister on her parents' monument in the Wells Cemetery and she is buried with her husband in the Poultney Cemetery. (If I had created only one memorial - for her actual burial - then sure as shooting someone would have created another one because she's listed on her parents' monument; and both would be linked to the parents' monument, and it would be a mess.)

In the Wells Cemetery, only her name "Bertha M. Farrer" appears on her parents' memorial. (Yes, that's how the Jenks' transcription spells the surname; I'll know more when I see the stone.) There are no dates. In the Poultney Cemetery, where she is buried with her husband, she is identified only as Bertha M. Ellis and the years of her life are given: 1882 - 1829. You'll be able to see it all when I get the photos taken and posted.

As you know, a cenotaph is a monument made to honor someone who is not buried in a particular location, but the listing of Bertha's name and her sister's name on her parents' monument is not technically a cenotaph. Nevertheless, it is my policy with respect to children with duplicate "stones":
1) to link only the actual burial to the parents' memorial at find-a-grave, so that the same child does not appear twice.
2) to link the two memorials for the child to each other. This way the non-burial doesn't get lost.
Regardless of what each stone says, I put the full information for the child on both memorials because . . . well . . . that's their information. I figure anyone who looks at the memorial can see the stone and my transcription of the inscription and know what's actually there.

Re: William Farrar
I believe you are mistaken about me having a memorial for his living wife. I do not find another Farrar that I manage. You should contact the person who manages that one.

My regards,

Winnette Stinson

RE: John Abernathy
According to the same source, Mary - John's wife, her stone is also non existing. (same cemetery and type of stone) The mother, Nancy, her stone appears to have been replaced with a modern stone at some point, though not too recently - it doesnt look like the other stones in the area. Most of the stones in Old Plano Cemetery are brittle white marble, broken repaired and or half buried if they still exist. The ones that still remain are worn but still legible if they havent been damaged by vandalls. Plano has 2 cemeteries within blocks of each other, some of the children for John and Mary can be found in Plano Mutual as well as Old Plano. James married a Baldridge. Not finding a stone for him in either location, and due to his condition that afflicted him, he may be in an unmarked plot with the parents of his Abernathy group or the spouse Baldridge.

Link to spouse
I have added the link to Mary Jane Cissell on the memorial for Douglas Farrar (Memorial# 37111333) as you requested. Since I live in Texas I cannot conveniently take another photo for Douglas' tombstone. If you will provide me with an email address I will gladly send you a copy of the original file which you can enlarge and take a closer look at. If you are not familiar with these types of tombstones see this link. Very interesting read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodsmen_of_the_World
I have seen several of these types of tombstones around Perry County.

Not trying to nag, just FYI that we've cleared over 200 requests this spring and now have 626 requests—fewer than there were in June, 2012. We'd be happy to clear your request(s) but some/all do not have plot information. Please call (216) 641-7575 and obtain plot information. We most likely already have a plot map but will let you know once we have plot info if we also need a map. Thanks!

Cecil Farrar photo request
Hi, the volunteers would be happy to fill your photo request however we will need a burial location to do so.
Can you please contact Laurel Land and get a burial location for your request? The number is 214 371 1336

There are over 450 photo requests currently and the volunteers cannot ask for that many locations to fill requests. With a location, your request will get filled pretty quickly. Thanks for your help!
